Lidice offers several cultural highlights: historical context at the museum, a memorial to the children who were victims of the war, a rose garden between the former and newly founded Lidice, and arts programmes. When planning your trip, it is helpful to distinguish between exhibition topics, the landscape and specific programmes at the Lidická Gallery. This lets you tailor your visit to the subject that matters most to you.

Cultural Monument and Historical Perspective

The Lidice site was declared a cultural monument on 3 March 1962 and a national cultural monument by government regulation on 16 August 1995. The two dates mark different stages in the site's recognition.

At the Lidice Museum, the multimedia permanent exhibition “A nevinní byli vinni...” (And the Innocent Were Guilty...) presents the lives and fates of the residents, the destruction of the village and its reconstruction. The exhibition places these topics in the context of important events in contemporary history. It thus takes visitors from the residents' life stories through to the changes in the village. Exhibition content may be updated.

Memorial and Rose Garden

The Memorial to the Children Victims of the War depicts 42 girls and 40 boys murdered in 1942. Unlike the broader-ranging exhibition, it focuses on a clearly defined group of war victims and gives the numbers separately for girls and boys.

The Lidice Rose Garden covers 3.5 hectares between the former and newly founded Lidice. It contains 240 rose varieties and more than 24,000 rose bushes. Ongoing replacements and additions may change the planting numbers. While the memorial focuses on remembrance, the garden is distinguished by its size and variety of roses.

Art and Programmes at the Lidická Gallery

The Lidice International Children's Art Exhibition is held annually at the Lidická Gallery. Specific dates and exhibits may vary. If you would like to plan your visit around the exhibition, check the dates and programme in advance.

In addition to cultural programmes, the Lidická Gallery hosts concerts and theatre performances. Individual programmes change. The Gallery also offers programmes for its youngest visitors in the Children's Gallery on the first floor; details may change here too.

One specific educational programme is the interactive “KDO JE BOB?” (WHO IS BOB?). It takes place at the Lidická Gallery and is aimed at preschool children and children in the first year of primary school. Availability and dates may vary, so it is worth checking in advance if this programme is important to your visit.

The educational programme “Stavíme nové Lidice” (Building a New Lidice) takes place at the Lidická Gallery and in Lidice House No. 116. Pupils build prototypes of new Lidice houses. Availability and scheduling for this programme may also change.

Different Focuses for Your Visit

When planning, it makes a difference whether you are guided by historical exhibition topics or by a specific art or educational programme. The multimedia exhibition is a permanent exhibition; the children's art exhibition takes place annually, while specific dates and individual programmes may vary. If you want a particular programme to shape your visit, check its current dates in advance. This helps you distinguish the permanent exhibition from offerings whose schedules may change.
