Tuchlovice combines mining history with a six-kilometre cycle path, distinctive religious buildings and peaceful outdoor spots. When planning your trip, you can choose different focuses: former mining activity and its traces, architecture and local history, or a walk or bike ride.

Cycle Path and Spoil Heap

The Cyklostezka Tuchlovice runs mostly along the route of a former railway spur that served the Tuchlovice mine. The path is paved and is also suitable for inline skating. It is six kilometres long and forms part of Cycle Route 8185, which runs from Lány to Kamenné Žehrovice railway station. You can join the Cyklostezka at several points. Check local conditions before setting out, as information about the surface or access points may change.

The Halda, the spoil heap of the former Tuchlovice mine, lies right next to the cycle path. It can be reached on foot or by bicycle. From the summit, you can look out over the surrounding landscape; there is also a table and benches where you can take a break. This makes it easy to combine the route with a stop at the viewpoint. Here too, it is a good idea to check local conditions before your visit.

Churches and Local History

The Church of St. Gallus dates back to an originally Gothic building from around 1330. Only the presbytery with its rib vault remains from this medieval structure. During a Baroque-style renovation between 1840 and 1844, a 27-metre-high tower was added above the entrance portal. The building’s present appearance dates from the 1890 renovation, when the sacristy was extended. Extensive restoration began in 2001; the church reopened in autumn 2002.

Another historical trace leads to the Chapel of St. Florian. Local landowner Jiří Náprstek had it built in 1715. It is dedicated to St. Florian because Tuchlovice was affected by a cattle plague that same year. A pilgrimage tradition at the chapel has been mentioned since 1886. Together, the church and chapel reveal different aspects of local history: the long building history of St. Gallus and the specific religious memory associated with St. Florian.

Park, Pond and a May Event

The large Tuchlovický park is in the centre of the village and offers a peaceful place to sit or take a walk. It was completely renovated in 2021. Rybník Salakvarda offers a different setting: the pond is beside a field path towards Lány and is fed by the Zámecký potok stream. It is especially popular with anglers and walkers. It is owned by the municipality and freely accessible; check local conditions before your visit, as access arrangements may change.

If you would like to plan your visit around a recurring event, consider the Tuchlovická pouť. It takes place every May in Tuchlovice’s square. The festival includes folk dancing, folk music and theatre performances. Individual programme details may vary, so check the dates and programme for the year you plan to visit.

Traces of Mining

The industrial history can also be located more precisely. The former JAROSLAV / NOSEK / TUCHLOVICE deep coal-mining complex is located within the cadastral area of the municipality of Tuchlovice. By contrast, the Pustinka ventilation shaft complex, also known as Na pustince, which belonged to the former Tuchlovice mine, is located within the cadastral area of the municipality of Lány, right beside the Lánská obora game reserve. Its main building with a headframe is designated as a technical monument. This distinction is useful if you want to explore Tuchlovice’s mining history alongside related remains located elsewhere.
