On the edge of Džbán Nature Park, Kačice lies on the left bank of the Loděnice stream, also known locally as Kačák. The landscape, routes and local history offer different starting points for planning your trip: you can explore cycling routes and hiking trails, or focus on the former mill site and historic buildings. Which angle you choose depends on whether you would rather spend time outdoors or explore the cultural history of the area.
Cycling and hiking routes in different directions
Cycle Route 0105 runs through Stochov, Čelechovice, Kačice, Srby and Kamenné Žehrovice. It is 8.55 kilometres long. For a cycling trip in Džbán Nature Park, Kačice railway station is recommended as a starting point. These two details answer different planning questions: the cycle route describes a route through several places, while the railway station is recommended as a starting point for a cycling trip in the nature park.
The hiking trails also differ in location and destination. A red-marked trail runs along the southern edge of Kačice beside the Loděnice, also known as Kačák. It leads from Lodenice near Mšecké Žehrovice to Loděnice near Beroun. The yellow-marked trail goes north from Kačice to the Obora forester’s lodge and then continues to Smečno. This gives you a trail along the southern edge of the village with the stated endpoints, and a northbound route via Obora. Check the trail markings locally before setting out.
Otevřený mlýn and Kačice’s industrial history
The former Koulův mlýn is now known as Otevřený mlýn. Visitors can arrange a personal guided tour of the entire site; check availability before you arrive. The mill dates back to 1666 and was converted to steam power at the end of the 19th century. Together with an adjoining steam dairy, it formed an industrial complex. The later technological changes and the connection with the dairy place the history of the mill site in a broader context than the building alone.
Another historic trace is the Prague–Lány horse railway: Kačice had a station on the line in the 19th century. This transport link adds another chapter to the village’s history alongside the former milling operation.
Chapel and rural farmstead
The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk in Kačice is a neo-Gothic niche chapel dating from 1851. Its dedication also marks a regular date on the local calendar: since 1993, a Mass has been held at the chapel on 16 May, the feast day of St John of Nepomuk. If you would like to include the date in your travel plans, confirm the local arrangements for the current year.
The rural farmstead at Masarykova 52 offers another perspective on the area’s architectural history. It comprises a dwelling house, a barn, partially preserved stables, an enclosure wall and gates. The complex is probably an example of half-timbered construction from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Several elements of a rural farmstead are the focus here, while the chapel is a single religious building; the dating of the farmstead as a half-timbered structure remains a probable attribution.
