Hořešovičky combines rural village architecture with archaeological traces from widely separated periods. A Baroque chapel stands in the village square; finds from the surrounding area range from an Acheulean stone-tool collection to settlement traces from the Roman Imperial period. The village lies in the so-called Klobucká Plain and near the road between Prague and Chomutov. Visitors choosing a destination with a focus on cultural history can distinguish between building history and archaeology here.

The Chapel and a Protected Farmstead

A Baroque chapel dating from the 18th century stands in the village square of Hořešovičky. The Kinský coat of arms is a specific decorative feature of the building. Its location, style and date give the chapel a clear place in the village’s history: it is an example of sacred village architecture.

A different architectural type is represented by the rural farmstead at Hořešovičky No. 15. It is a listed monument, is Neoclassical in style and includes a half-timbered agricultural building. The dating to the late 19th century applies to the farmstead as a whole, not specifically to the agricultural building. The chapel and farmstead thus represent different building functions and styles: sacred architecture on the one hand, and a rural agricultural complex on the other.

Archaeological Traces from Different Periods

The Acheulean site in Hořešovičky was discovered in autumn 2002. It yielded a large collection of chipped stone tools, made predominantly from local Paleozoic chert. The material itself is also part of the site’s history: the collection links the archaeological finds to a specific raw material from the surrounding area.

A separate find came from the garden of house No. 27. There, at a depth of 1.6 metres, the grave of a woman described as wealthy, dating from the 4th to 3rd century BC, was found. Its date, depth and findspot place this grave in a different time and location from the Acheulean stone-tool collection.

Settlement traces from the Roman Imperial period are also part of Hořešovičky’s archaeological history. Several sunken huts, pits and postholes were identified at one site; two Roman bronze vessels were also found there. Near Hořešovičky, a settlement from the Early Roman Imperial period extended along a southeastern slope descending towards the Bílichovský stream. A settlement from the 2nd to 3rd century was located a few hundred metres northwest of the village.
