In Loděnice, railway history, guided walks and clearly identified natural areas come together. The railway station is home to a railway museum and is also associated with a well-known film. There are also two routes exploring local history, as well as nature topics with very different focuses. If you are considering Loděnice as a destination, you can first decide whether you are more interested in the history of the railway station, a guided walk or information about protected natural areas.

Railway and Film History at the Station

The “Muzeum trati a Ostře sledovaných vlaků” museum is located in the railway station building in Loděnice near Beroun. The station was built in 1897 alongside the railway connection between Dušníky—now a district of Rudná—and Beroun. Its railway connections therefore extend beyond film history and are linked to a specific railway line and year.

In the 1960s, director Jiří Mencl filmed “Ostře sledované vlaky,” based on a story by Bohumil Hrabal, at Loděnice railway station. The station thus brings together two distinct historical connections: the construction of the railway line in 1897 and the later filming. The museum, station and film history form a notable cultural focus for anyone interested in railway or film history.

Local History on Two Guided Routes

Guided walks along two routes are offered in Loděnice for those interested in local history. The longer one takes 120 minutes and includes stories about the history of Vinice Chateau. This means you can take the time required into account when choosing between the routes; the longer route also has a specific historical focus. The stated duration applies to the longer route.

If you are planning one of the walks, check the arrangements for the offering before you travel. The two routes are a separate way to explore local history; their description should not be taken to mean that you will visit Vinice Chateau. When planning your trip, it is therefore important to distinguish between stories about the chateau’s history and an actual visit.

Natural Monument and Habitat of the European Ground Squirrel

The Špičatý vrch–Barrandovy jámy natural monument was designated in 1970 and covers 2.8 hectares. It comprises the wooded southwestern part of the 414-metre-high Špičatý vrch hill in the Karlštejnská vrchovina, also known as Na Černidlech. The natural monument lies one kilometre south of Loděnice railway station, at a bend in the Loděnice–Bubovice road, within the cadastral area of Loděnice u Berouna. The area and elevation refer to different things: 2.8 hectares is the size of the natural monument, while 414 metres is the height of the hill.

Syslí jámy is a different nature attraction: a 4.7-hectare meadow where European ground squirrels are found, 1¼ kilometres southeast of Loděnice. The aim of conservation measures there is to preserve the European ground squirrel and encourage its spread into surrounding biotopes. While Špičatý vrch–Barrandovy jámy is described as a natural monument with a specific location on the hill, Syslí jámy focuses on the meadow, the presence of the species and the conservation objective.

More Highlights to Help You Choose Your Stay

Local history has other facets, too: the former owner’s summer house was converted into the Orthodox monastery of sv. Václava a svaté Ludmily, which still exists today. This story adds another chapter in the area’s past to its railway and film connections, without requiring a specific construction year to be given.

Kuličkový park Loděnice has two tracks. Check the visiting arrangements before you arrive. Together with the guided walks and cultural and nature attractions, this offers a range of interests rather than one prescribed itinerary. If you are considering Loděnice as an overnight destination, you can choose your focus based on whether you are most interested in the railway station and film, local history, or nature and conservation.
