Podluhy brings together the stream that shapes the village on both banks, village greens, and a history that stretches from former fortresses to charcoal. The surrounding forests are also part of the village’s character: walks, mushroom picking, and gathering wild berries are among the leisure activities. Village history and time spent in nature are thus two distinct, specifically described aspects of the place.

The Stream, the Founding, and the Village Greens

Podluhy’s founding is dated to 1331. At that time, the village lay at the foot of the Brdy forests, on both banks of a stream called Kuňatka, now known as Podlužský potok. The two names reflect different periods: Kuňatka is the former name, while Podlužský potok is the current one. At the same time, the stream’s course is part of the village’s geographical setting and a prominent reference point in its history.

Two traditionally shaped, irregular village greens provide distinct landmarks. One lies near the old chapel dedicated to Saint Florian. The other is in the upper part of the village and is called Draha. The two greens can thus be distinguished by different local references: one by the chapel, the other by its location in the upper part of the village and the name Draha. Those interested in traditional village layouts will find more than a single central square in these distinct greens.

Fortresses, the Dvůr, and Former Livelihoods

On a rise in Podluhy, the site of a former fortress is still known by the name “Na rumech.” No structure from the fortress survives. A fortress with a brewery was built in Podluhy in the 15th century; it, too, no longer survives. The village’s history therefore includes both a fortress site still known by name today and a reference to a later structure with a brewery.

The Dvůr, which still stands today, belonged to the Hořovice estate. Historical livelihoods in Podluhy included forestry, small-scale farming, and livestock raising. Charcoal burning was added later. The charcoal was used by the developing iron industry. The recorded economic history thus ranges from the use of forests and farming to the use of charcoal in industry.

Forests and Route Information

People visit Podluhy for recreation and extended stays. Leisure activities include walks in the surrounding forests, mushroom picking, and gathering wild berries. These activities take place in the forests around the village, while the village greens and historical traces are part of the village’s history. When planning a stay, visitors can therefore distinguish between the village’s landmarks and the described ways to enjoy the forest.

A specific route description is also provided: at the Podluhy, Na Drahách bus stop, the Lochovická TŘICÍTKA route continues to the right on cycle path 0006A. An alternative way to reach Hrachoviště starts from Podluhy; the distance is about 3 km. This adds a described route and an approximate distance to an access point to Hrachoviště to the local landmarks.
