Kramsach offers a trip with a range of highlights: Tyrolean farmsteads, sacred art, a museum cemetery and Lake Reintal provide cultural and natural attractions. To plan your visit, it helps to decide on your main focus first: a museum visit with a stated duration calls for a different schedule than a walk by the lake or an activity on the water. This will help you decide whether to devote your stay mainly to cultural history, outdoor activities or both.

Tyrolean culture in various forms

The Tyrolean Farmstead Museum comprises 14 original farmsteads and 23 outbuildings from across Tyrol. You can explore the buildings inside and out. A 1.5-hour guided tour takes you through Tyrol’s historic rural culture and gives your visit a clear time frame. Children can enjoy many games, quiz stations, puzzles and interactive activities at the museum. The museum hosts the Great Church Festival every year at the end of September—an annual event in its own right, separate from the guided tour.

The Tyrol Museum Cemetery in Kramsach displays more than 100 grave crosses dating back five centuries, some with curious inscriptions. Here, the crosses and their inscriptions take centre stage, while the farmstead museum showcases historic farm complexes. Each offers a different perspective on cultural history.

On Hilariberg, the devotional image “Mariahilf auf dem Hilariberg” is displayed beneath a canopy in the centre of the chapel. It is a copy of the devotional image in the church of “Santa Maria della Bruna” in Naples. Another sacred site lies near Kramsach: in 1689, Brother Hilarion a Sancto Sebastiano built a small Marian chapel with a hermitage on the scree cone of the Pletzach rockfall.

Near the Mariathal Basilica on the Brandenberger Ache, Kramsach artist Alois Schild created an impressive Gesamtkunstwerk in the sculpture park. It adds a distinctive perspective on art to the historic and sacred themes.

Lake Reintal: water and trails

Lake Reintal is the largest of the lakes in Kramsach. Its water temperature reaches up to 25°C. A hiking trail runs around the lake. A barrier-free trail along the shore allows people using wheelchairs or rollators, as well as families with strollers, to enjoy nature right by the water. The trail is flat, well maintained and has regular rest stops. If these features are important for your plans, check the trail’s current condition before your visit.

Plan routes and activities in detail

The access trail to the Lake Reintal via ferrata starts east of the “Kramsach Parkplatz Halbinsel” bus stop. It takes 20 minutes through the forest to reach the spot where you put on your climbing harness, then continues to the start of the via ferrata. The stated time refers to the trail as far as the point where you put on your harness. A helmet, via ferrata set, climbing harness and sturdy footwear are required.

Sport Ossi offers tubing on the Brandenberger Ache in Kramsach. The family tour is just over 1.5 kilometres long, while the “XL Action Tour” is 3.5 kilometres. The route lengths make it easy to compare the two tours. Beginners can get their first paddling experience in Kramsach at the Sport Ossi whitewater centre. A beginner’s kayaking course teaches techniques and the right way to behave in whitewater.
