The Ursprungweg shows how varied hiking plans around Riedenberg can be: the trail is just under 55 kilometres long, while one stage is described as taking around 7.5 hours. The Glemmbach Gorge also has several stream crossings without bridges, and a festival takes place every year on 15 August. When planning, it is therefore important to consider not only the kilometres, but also what a stated duration refers to and the trail conditions.

Hiking routes with different time profiles

The Ursprungweg, just under 55 kilometres long, runs from Wörnsmühl near Fischbachau via Bayrischzell and the Ursprung Pass to Riedenberg, and onwards to Thiersee. The Riedenberg stage of the Ursprungweg runs from Landl via Riedenberg to Thiersee. It is listed as taking around 7.5 hours and follows gently ascending forest roads at an altitude of almost 1,000 metres. The duration is a guide only.

The EUREGIO Marien-Weg M1 offers another day stage: Stage 04 runs from Riedenberg via Buchacker to Mariastein. This route is listed as 13.5 kilometres long, with 870 metres of elevation gain, and taking around five hours. Compared with the roughly 7.5-hour Ursprungweg stage, this gives you a choice of a different route, distance and elevation gain. When weighing up the time estimates, consider each specific stage rather than just the number of hours.

For many years, the Thiersee Mountain Rescue Service has maintained the hiking trails in the higher-altitude areas of Landl, Jochberg and Riedenberg on behalf of the Landl tourism association. Its remit extends as far as the Erzherzog-Johann-Klause and Valepp, covering several localities.

Glemmbach Gorge: plan for crossings

The hike through the Glemmbach Gorge connects the Thiersee localities of Landl and Riedenberg. The gorge is three kilometres long, and the central section is listed as taking around two hours. The distance refers to the gorge, while the time estimate refers to the central section.

There are very few walkways or bridges in the Glemmbach Gorge. The Glemmbach has to be crossed several times without bridges, so hikers should expect to get their feet wet. As physical route conditions can change after weather events and walking speeds vary, check the current situation before setting out. The time estimate for the central section is a guide only.

Stone Circle and Wastlerfest

Around the stone circle in Riedenberg, 14 stations invite you to pause for breath, meditate and enjoy nature. Alongside stages with their distances and walking times, this provides another focus for planning your trip: individual stations and the activities mentioned there.

The Wastlerfest takes place every year on 15 August at the Gasthaus Wastler in Riedenberg. The BMK Landl gives a concert at the festival. If you would like to include this date in your travel plans, the festival is a specific cultural occasion for a stay around 15 August.
