A stay in Aurach bei Kitzbühel can be tailored to suit a range of interests: wildlife experiences at the wildlife park, sacred art and chapels, hikes linked to the history of mining, or far-reaching mountain views. When planning your trip, it’s worth noting the specific differences: some activities have set times, while others are seasonal; the cultural and landscape themes each offer their own focus.

Church, Chapels and History

Aurach Parish Church was first mentioned in 1365 and dedicated to Saint Rupert in 1427. The Passion frescoes on its exterior walls date from around 1440. This gives the church three distinct historical reference points: its first mention, its dedication and the later frescoes. The Pocher Chapel was built by miners. The Brander Chapel, which was destroyed by a storm, was rebuilt in 1911. Together, the church and chapels offer different ways to explore sacred art, mining and the history of rebuilding.

Aurach Wildlife Park: Feeding Times and Accessibility

Aurach Wildlife Park is home to 350 animals. The daily wildlife feeding takes place at the feeding area at 2:30 p.m.; it is suspended during the rutting season, from mid-September to early November. It takes about two minutes to walk from the entrance to the feeding area. At the Streichlstadl, visitors can pet llamas, sheep, Shetland ponies, donkeys, goats, rabbits and guinea pigs.

A supervised animal-feeding session for children is offered at the Streichlstadl at 1:30 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The two feeding sessions differ in their timing and conditions: wildlife feeding is suspended during the rutting season, while the children’s feeding session at the Streichlstadl is offered on weekends and public holidays. The entire wildlife park is accessible with a stroller. Wheelchair access extends to the feeding area and the lynx enclosure.

Hiking and Mountain Views

Aurach is an officially designated hiking village; in summer, it is part of the Kitzbühel Southern Mountains hiking area. The hike to Kelchalm and Bochumer Hütte starts in Oberaurach and leads to the Kochau district, where you can admire traditional Tyrolean houses. The historic Kelchalm building served as a place for miners to eat and sleep. On the return leg of the Kelchalm route, the trail passes the ruins of the former ore-processing mill.

From Laubkogel, the view stretches across Kitzbühel and the Kitzbüheler Horn to the Wilder Kaiser. This gives you different options when planning: the Kelchalm route combines hiking with mining history, while Laubkogel offers views of the mountains and places mentioned above.

Seasonal Activities and Trip Planning

The Kitzbühel ski area connects Kitzbühel, Reith, Aurach and Jochberg, with 233 kilometres of ski runs and 58 lift facilities. In summer, Aurach is part of the Kitzbühel Southern Mountains hiking area, so it is worth considering seasonal interests when planning your trip.

From June to September, the NaturTaxi takes visitors from nine pick-up points to five natural highlights. It also stops at the entrance to Aurach Wildlife Park. The operating dates, fares and routes may change. If you plan to use the NaturTaxi, check before travelling that the season and route suit your travel dates.

Your plans can therefore take into account both set visiting times and seasonal activities: wildlife feeding has a daily time, with an exception during the rutting season, while the NaturTaxi operates between June and September. These differences can help you plan your visit around your interests and travel dates.
