In Kirchberg in Tirol, mountain activities on Gaisberg sit alongside a long local history. For active days, choose from hikes, mountain bike routes and the GOASberg Puzzle Trail, each offering a different focus; the parish church, traces of Bronze Age settlements and the Blumencorso add cultural highlights. When planning, consider whether you want to focus on mountain activities or history.
Hikes and Tours on Gaisberg
Gaisberg offers easy to moderately difficult hikes to mountain huts and rewarding viewpoints. The Gaisberg 4-seater chairlift provides access to Gaisberg and varied mountain bike routes through the KitzbĂĽhel Alps landscape. As the lift operates seasonally, check its operating status before planning an excursion. Hikes to mountain huts or viewpoints and mountain bike routes offer different ways to spend your time in the mountains.
The GOASberg Puzzle Trail is a distinct hiking option. It starts at the mountain station of the Gaisberg lift and follows a hiking trail suitable for children down into the valley, ending at the Obergaisberg inn. The trail features eight puzzle stations, a man-made mountain lake and a small chapel steeped in legend. Along the way, you can experience the varied and unspoiled mountain and forest landscape of the KitzbĂĽhel Alps. Those who prefer a themed route will find a different focus here than on hikes to mountain huts and viewpoints. Trail infrastructure and operations may be seasonal; the activity features may also be updated seasonally. Check the conditions for your chosen date before setting out.
The Lisi-Osl-Trail on Gaisberg is a 2.3-kilometre descent with 450 metres of elevation loss. Its length and elevation difference give you specific details to help fit the descent into your day’s plans. Trail conditions and ratings can change; check the latest information when planning your visit.
History and Culture in Kirchberg
Kirchberg Parish Church reflects several historical building phases: a Romanesque church from the 13th century was followed by a new Gothic building in the 15th century. In the 18th century, the church interior was redesigned and fully converted to the Baroque style. The building therefore illustrates the progression of styles from Romanesque through Gothic to Baroque. A large image of the Madonna by Kirchberg church painter Michael Lackner can also be seen on the exterior wall of the church tower.
Traces of settlements dating from the Late Bronze Age, between 1100 and 900 BC, are part of the area’s early history. A recurring highlight on the events calendar is the Blumencorso: held annually, it features more than 25 decorated flower floats and vintage cars adorned with over 500,000 flowers. The scale and programme can vary from year to year. If the parade is relevant to your trip, take the date for that year into account when choosing your travel dates.
