Fieberbrunn brings together several practical planning considerations: at Wildseeloder, the approximate walking times to the lake and the summit differ. At Lauchsee, be aware of seasonal swimming conditions and the southern shore, which is reserved for fishing. If you’re also interested in local history, beyond outdoor activities, you’ll find notable dates at the parish church and in the history of the town’s name.
Hiking Trails and Destinations at Wildseeloder
Trail No. 711 leads from the Lärchfilzkogel mountain station to Wildseelodersee; the walk takes about one hour. The route to the Wildseeloder summit follows the same starting point, passing via the lake, and takes about two hours. This lets you choose between the shorter walk to the lake and the longer summit route when planning your day. Both times are approximate.
The hiking trails in Fieberbrunn range from challenging summit hikes to more leisurely panoramic walks and descents from the mountains. Depending on the route, they lead to viewpoints, alpine pastures, mountain streams and lakes. The Blumenweg trail around Hochhörndlspitze passes numerous protected alpine flowers. It leads via Reckmoos and past Lärchfilzhochalm to the Streuböden middle station or to Timoks Wilde Welt. The route to Wildseeloder offers panoramic views across the Kitzbühel Alps, with the snow-covered Tauern visible in the distance. Wildseeloderhaus, which serves regional specialities, lies right on the shore of Wildseelodersee.
Along the Timoks Entdecker Checker Pfad, you’ll find giant animal models and interactive play stations. This gives the trail a different focus from the mountain and flower trails described above.
Lauchsee and the Screaming Waterfalls
Lauchsee in Fieberbrunn is a small moor lake surrounded by gentle mountains. From here, you can see the Wilder Kaiser, the Loferer Berge and the Kitzbühel Alps. The spacious grounds are a swimming and family area; opening is seasonal and weather-dependent. The southern shore is specifically reserved for fishing. If you’d like to fish there, check the applicable fishing regulations in advance. Also check the latest opening status before planning a day of swimming.
The Schreiende Brunnen are a small veil waterfall in the Hörndlingergraben, fed by Wildalpsee. The water is of drinking-water quality. The area is subject to a visitor restriction; check local conditions before planning a visit.
Local History at the Parish Church
The parish church of Saints Primus and Felizian was consecrated on 17 June 1446. Its ceiling frescoes were created by Innsbruck artist Wolfram Köberl in 1982/83. The church thus brings together a historic consecration date and a fresco cycle created much later.
The name Fieberbrunn also has a historical connection: it derives from the healing spring at Pramau. The name Fieberbrunn appears regularly in 15th-century documents, and more rarely in the shortened form Prun. The place name and parish church therefore offer two different historical points of interest: a traditional account of the name’s origin and a precisely dated architectural and artistic landmark.
More Seasonal Activities
The AUBAD in Fieberbrunn has an indoor sports pool, an outdoor swimming channel, a 65-metre tunnel slide, a children’s pool, a sauna village and a restaurant. As facilities and opening arrangements may change, check them before visiting.
For cross-country skiing, Fieberbrunn has the 15-kilometre Dandler trail. It is rated easy to intermediate and is groomed for both classic and skating styles. Conditions depend on the season. Alongside the hiking trails, you can choose from seasonal cross-country skiing and the various facilities at AUBAD.
