Markt Piesting offers several distinct points of interest for a stay: recurring festivals, the parish church of St. Leonhard, routes for cycling and hiking, and the forest bath. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether a date in the annual calendar, a tour or swimming should be the main focus. For events, the calendar matters; for tours, length, stops and starting points are important planning details.
Festivals Throughout the Year
The Biedermeier Advent Market takes place in Markt Piesting every year on the Saturday of the first weekend of Advent. The harvest festival is celebrated annually in late September and includes a procession carrying the harvest crown from the fountain in the town centre towards the church. The New Year’s Eve Run also takes place every year on December 31; it was founded in 1991. A three-kilometre course is planned for the majority of participants. Two of the three dates are fixed to a specific day, while the harvest festival falls in late September. This difference can help you plan a visit around a specific event day or a period of time.
Church and Routes
The parish church of St. Leonhard is an early Historicist building dating from the mid-19th century. If you factor architectural history into your travel plans alongside festival dates, you will find a distinct cultural point of interest here.
The Harz Trail is just under three kilometres long and has eight informative stops. It starts at a large car park in Markt Piesting, passes the site of the former resin works and runs through a pine forest. The Piestingtal Cycle Path starts at a different, easy-to-find location: the car park opposite the Lower Austrian Middle School. The two routes therefore differ not only in whether you walk or cycle, but also in their respective starting points.
Cycle Path and Regional Travel
Markt Piesting is regularly accessible via Wiener Neustadt by regional train. The Piestingtal Railway runs parallel to the Piestingtal Cycle Path and has stations in numerous towns. These are different points of reference for planning your trip: regular train connections via Wiener Neustadt and the cycle path starting in the town. The parallel routes of the railway and cycle path also provide a guide to the regional route.
The Forest Bath
The Markt Piesting Forest Bath has a 300 m² sports pool, a 500 m² non-swimmer pool and a children’s pool with heated water. At 500 m², the non-swimmer pool is larger than the sports pool. A 40-metre water slide is also available. The different pools and the slide give you specific features to compare with your interests when planning a visit. If you are planning to visit on a particular day, check the current opening days in advance.
