Spring hiking trails, the Offner climbing rock and sacred art in the parish church offer different perspectives on Reichenfels. To help you choose, consider two questions: How much time would you like to spend walking, and are you more interested in nature, climbing or sacred art?

Springs and hiking routes

Along one of the spring hiking trails near Reichenfels, water from the Kölzer spring emerges. It has a high calcium and iron content and is considered unique in Austria. Six spring hiking trails are associated with Reichenfels; they range from 6 to 24 kilometres in length. Activities include leisurely walks, hiking and Nordic walking; some of the trails are also suitable for cycling. This range gives you a guide to choosing the length of hike you want; for cycling, it is also relevant that only some of the trails are suitable.

For three named routes, both distance and duration are provided. The Guckofen circular trail is about 3 kilometres long and takes around 45 minutes. The Ruinen Runde is about 6.5 kilometres long and takes around two hours. The Höllgraben hiking tour is about 8.5 kilometres long and takes around two and a half hours. This gives you a shorter circular trail and longer hikes to help you plan your time. These are approximate figures; check trail conditions and signage before setting out.

The hike from the Reichenfels town area to Reichenfels Castle ruins takes around one hour. Feldalpe lies on the western edge of the municipality; it can be reached from the centre of Reichenfels by a hike of about 3.5 hours. The duration depends on conditions and pace.

Climbing and cycling

The Offner climbing rock in Höllgraben offers 23 climbing routes graded III to VII. Climb at your own risk. The Alpine Club offers climbing courses at the rock by prior arrangement.

The Lavantradweg R10 connects Reichenfels in the north with LavamĂĽnd in the south and is part of the cycling network in the Lavant Valley. It offers a different regional connection from the spring hiking trails, some of which are suitable for cycling. Temporary conditions may affect route continuity, so check the route before setting out.

Church and views

Romanesque and early Gothic masonry has been preserved in Reichenfels parish church. A Baroque work depicts the church’s and parish’s patron saint, Saint James the Greater, as a pilgrim at its centre. The building’s history and the depiction of the saint offer two different ways to engage with sacred art.

The viewing pavilion at Guckofen invites you for a short walk and offers a view over the rooftops of Reichenfels. This provides a short walking option alongside the longer hikes.
