Prebl combines hiking trails with a distinctive history of its springs and local area. Around the Preblauer Sauerbrunn, trails lead to the spring in Preblau; the Lori Chapel and war memorial add their own historical points of interest. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between routes by their respective courses and considering the cultural and historical sites as separate themes.
Hiking and getting your bearings
The Prebl circular hike leads via Trippolthof and onwards to the Sauerbrunn in Preblau. The Preblauer Paracelsusweg Q6 runs from the Paracelsushaus in Bad St. Leonhard via Weihbrunnweg and the Hofbauersiedlung to the Paracelsus Spring in Preblau. It passes through beautiful, unspoilt areas and is marked, with information boards along the way. As trail markers and information on site may change, check the signs before setting off.
The Q6 also passes the Lori Chapel. The Benedict Way also runs past it, coming from Styria and continuing to Slovenia. The circular hike focuses on Trippolthof and the Sauerbrunn, the Q6 on the route from the Paracelsushaus to the spring, and the Benedict Way on the Styria–Slovenia direction. These different destinations can help you choose a route that suits your interests.
The Prebl circular hike is connected to public transport by post bus; check the current timetable before travelling. Parking is available in the centre of Prebl. If you are arriving by car, factor in this location when planning and check the current parking situation before setting off.
Preblauer Sauerbrunn: Spring and history
Paracelsus is said to have studied the spring in Preblau in the first half of the 16th century. The Preblauer Sauerbrunn was first mentioned in a document in 1575. One of the two springs is still known as the “Paracelsus Spring” today. The water naturally contains carbon dioxide. Preblauer healing and mineral water is still bottled at the Paracelsus Spring today and shipped around the world. If you are planning to visit the bottling facility, check in advance whether this is possible.
Lori Chapel and war memorial
Inside the Lori Chapel are a statue of the Madonna and Child and a total of eight framed images of saints. An inscription on the gable refers to the year it was built, 1882. The interior furnishings and the gable inscription offer two specific points of reference for a cultural and historical look at the chapel.
The Prebl war memorial was erected in 1962 and commemorates those who fell in the two world wars from Gräbern, Prebl and Wölling-Auen. It is located south of the cemetery wall. The memorial therefore explicitly includes the two other named localities as well as Prebl.
