For a stay in Hartelsberg, three themes can take center stage: hiking on the Koralpe, winter sports and cultural history. Hiking routes vary in their valley views, summit destinations and waterfalls; there is also the ski season, which starts in December 2026, and individual cultural landmarks with clearly dated details.
Hiking on the Koralpe
The Koralpe hiking area at Hartelsberg 70 has an extensive regional network of hiking trails. One specific option is the panoramic trail to Goding: From the Koralpen parking lot, it follows hiking trail No. 4 to the Sonnhof inn on Goding. Along the way, there are views of the Lavant Valley. The route can therefore be identified by its starting point, trail number, destination and views—helpful if you prefer clear landmarks for a day of hiking.
A panoramic circular hike leads to the GroĂźer Speikkogel; at 2,141 m, it is the highest point on this hike. The Koralpe circular tour offers a different highlight: On the descent, it passes the Poms Waterfall along trail No. 591 before returning to the starting point at the Koralpen parking lot. A hike to the Poms Waterfall starts below the parking lot on trail No. 591 and usually takes about 50 minutes. This makes it easy to distinguish whether the Poms Waterfall is the destination of the hike or a section of the descent on a circular tour.
For plant enthusiasts, the flower hike offers a seasonal alternative to summit and waterfall destinations: On the Koralpe, you can admire rare alpine plants.
Winter sports and other activities
The Koralpe ski area opens in December 2026; it has excellently groomed slopes and plenty of space for winter sports enthusiasts. If the ski season is a key factor in choosing your dates, check the opening information that applies to your visit before travelling. The Heizhaus is located in the center of the ski area and offers views of the area. Tandem paragliding flights are also offered on the Koralpe by the company Touch The Sky. The model aircraft flying field is located right in front of the Alpengasthof Waldrast.
Cultural history and landmarks
The register of monuments dated June 19, 2026, lists Hartneidstein Castle Ruins in the Hartelsberg cadastral community as a protected monument. Another cultural landmark is the Husarkreuz: It is a larch-wood wayside shrine with a small wooden crucifix and was erected on June 15, 2002. A hiking trail from Wolfsberg passes the shrine and continues to the Lippi inn.
The historical significance of the Binderkreuz spans a longer period: It has been in existence for around 150 years and was most recently renovated in 2009. The cross has been preserved even though the former farm building known as vulgo Binder no longer exists. The two crosses can therefore be considered in light of different details: For the Husarkreuz, the focus is on its material, form and exact date of erection; for the Binderkreuz, it is on its approximate age, renovation and the former farm building that no longer exists.
