When planning a stay at Weinebene, winter sports and hiking offer different ways to spend your time. The ski area lies on the border between Carinthia and Styria. Slopes, a cross-country ski trail and a toboggan run make for a different kind of winter’s day than a hiking stage or snowshoe tour.
Winter days on the slopes, cross-country ski trail and toboggan run
The Weinebene ski area has 18 km of slopes and seven lift facilities. It also has a 15 km cross-country ski trail, ski touring trails and a toboggan run. This means the winter sports on offer extend beyond alpine skiing. The distinction is useful when planning: you can make downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, ski touring or tobogganing your main activity rather than limiting your stay to just one kind of winter sport.
Snowbikes can be rented at Weinebene; rental availability may vary by season. If snowbiking is an essential part of your plans, check availability for your travel dates. The Göslerhütte is a place to stop for refreshments at Weinebene and may be open seasonally. Check in advance whether it will be open during your visit.
Long-distance trail and snowshoe tour
The Koralm Crystal Trail is 80 km long and divided into four stages. The Lavant Valley section runs from Reichenfels via Weinebene to LavamĂĽnd. When planning, it is worth distinguishing this section from the entire route: Weinebene lies along the Lavant Valley section, while 80 km and four stages describe the whole trail. Route conditions may vary; check the route before setting out.
The Moschkogel Tour offers a different kind of outing: it is an easy snowshoe hike across a gently rolling mountain ridge. This gives you a choice between an 80 km trail divided into four stages and a snowshoe tour. So when choosing your days, consider whether you prefer a multi-stage trail or a specific tour.
Elevation, chapel and arrival
The elevation figures refer to different areas: the ski area is at an altitude of 1,580 to 1,886 m, while the Weinebene area reaches 1,900 m. There is also a large car park at the pass, which you can use as a landmark when planning your arrival.
The Paulus Chapel also adds a cultural element to your travel plans. Carl Hermann designed the chapel and was also the founder of the North–South Long-Distance Trail 05. The connection between the building and the long-distance trail is through Hermann, bringing both aspects together.
Plan your trip around your main interest
When looking for a holiday apartment for your stay at Weinebene, it helps to have a clear main activity in mind: the slopes, cross-country ski trail and toboggan run call for different day plans than a stage of the Koralm Crystal Trail or the Moschkogel Tour. Decide which activity will shape your trip and which you would like to keep as an alternative. For snowbike rentals and the Göslerhütte, check seasonal availability for your travel dates.
