Jois can be discovered through a variety of local details: twelve cellars line the Cellar Lane, the B12 Cherry Blossom Cycle Path runs from Jois to Donnerskirchen, and the Quiet Place by the HiatahĂĽtte invites you to experience nature mindfully. There are also guided experiences and a beach in the harbour basin. This lets you plan your stay around local history, cycling, nature or time by the water, rather than trying to fit everything into a single itinerary.

The Cellar Lane as a historic landmark

The Cellar Lane begins north of the main square and runs northwest towards the Leithagebirge. There are twelve cellars in total along its street frontages. The Ehardt family’s cellar was built in 1778 and is the oldest in the group. The main square marks the starting point of the lane, and the Leithagebirge indicates its direction; the Ehardt cellar adds a specific construction date to this spatial orientation.

Cycling route and cherry varieties

Jois lies directly on the approximately 45-kilometre-long B12 Cherry Blossom Cycle Path, which runs from Jois to Donnerskirchen. Along the way, the route crosses hills, passes through vineyards and goes by numerous cherry trees. The village square has a bicycle repair station and a drinking fountain. Towards Winden, two cherry-variety gardens featuring old regional varieties lie along the B10 and B12 cycle paths. The difference is clear when planning: the B12 is a route through varied landscapes, while the gardens focus specifically on old regional cherry varieties.

Dry grasslands and guided experiences

The Quiet Place by the HiatahĂĽtte below Jungenberg offers a more peaceful connection with nature. It lies in a dry grassland landscape and is a place for silence, reflection and mindful experiences of nature. At the outdoor information board, you can use QR codes to find out about the dry grasslands on Hackelsberg and Jungenberg in Jois. In this way, a place for reflection also provides a specific way to learn about the two named dry grasslands.

You can also go hiking in Jois in the Neusiedler See–Leithagebirge World Heritage Nature Park. A state-certified tour guide offers walks, hikes and night watchman experiences; additional dates can be arranged by appointment. If you are planning a guided activity, confirm dates before your trip.

Beach and regional specialities

Jois beach is in the harbour basin, about two kilometres from the village. It has a natural pebble beach and a swimming meadow. SUP boards can be hired from the beach club on the swimming meadow; rentals may be seasonal. The approximate distance helps you plan the beach as a separate activity alongside things to do in the village. A day at the beach is clearly different from a visit to the Quiet Place: here, the swimming meadow and potential water sports take centre stage, while the Quiet Place offers silence and information about dry grasslands.

Jois is one of five municipalities in the “Leithaberger Edelkirsche” culinary region. Many wineries have been run by the same families for generations and showcase their skills at tastings. The cherry-growing region places the fruit in its regional context, while tastings put the wineries in the spotlight. Confirm individual tasting dates with the wineries before your trip.
