The Gualeguay Department can be explored through three distinct places: the city of the same name, the port town of Puerto Ruiz and the rural community of Aldea AsunciĂłn. Urban culture and recreation, the history of the river and routes through green landscapes offer different travel highlights. When choosing accommodation, consider which of these themes you want to shape your stay.

City, Recreation and Culture

Minuanes Parque Recreativo in Gualeguay offers extensive green spaces, walking paths, play areas and quiet spots. There are also areas for physical activities and recreation. Special packages for birthdays, group outings and student activities are designed for all ages. As program details may change, check the latest information if you’re planning to take advantage of one of these offerings.

The Juan Bautista Ambrosetti Museum is one of Gualeguay’s cultural institutions and is open to the community. The Iglesia San Antonio is known for its historic frescoes. Another facet of the city is the Fiesta del Corso, held on the streets of Gualeguay each year at the beginning of the year, in January and February. The exact dates vary each year; if you want to plan your trip around the event, check the dates for that year’s edition. Gualeguay has also hosted the Campeonato Argentino de Wakeboard, a national water sports event.

Puerto Ruiz and the River’s History

Puerto Ruiz is a port town in the Gualeguay Department on the right bank of the Río Gualeguay. Thanks to its access to the river, the town historically brought together saladeros—meat-salting establishments that processed the region’s livestock. At the time, they were the main economic activity in Puerto Ruiz and the departmental capital. The Fiesta del Pescador in Puerto Ruiz is described as one of the region’s most traditional and moving celebrations.

Landscapes and Outdoor Activities

Aldea AsunciĂłn has a rural character, with abundant greenery, streams and paths through the countryside. It is part of the Caminos Costeros del rĂo Gualeguay microregion. Nearby streams and country roads invite visitors to walk and cycle. Alongside the rural setting, the surrounding landscape offers opportunities for outdoor activities.

Balneario Paso de las Lanas is a good spot for a day outdoors, whether to cool off in the water or relax among the trees. At the RĂo Gualeguay near Gualeguay, options include sport fishing and sport hunting, birdwatching with specialized guides, and rural tourism on estancias. These activities range from guided wildlife observation to rural tourism on estancias.
