In Victoria Department, the landscape is shaped by island areas and wetlands as well as the city of Victoria’s historical and cultural attractions. A notable natural area is the Reserva Natural de la Defensa Isla Martín Fierro. It is located in Victoria Department, in the province of Entre Ríos, on the border with Santa Fe.

Island Areas, Lagoons and the Paraná

Among the reserve’s most important conservation values are wetlands and island areas representative of the Delta e Islas del río Paraná ecoregion. Shallow lagoons lie in lower-lying areas of Isla Martín Fierro. Their water levels and vegetation cover vary; the boundaries and areas of the islands also change over time. The landscape should therefore not be seen as an unchanging backdrop.

The management plan for RUM Islas Victoria provides for the protection of 370,000 hectares of islands belonging to Victoria Department. This wording records the protection as planned. The reserve lies along the main shipping channel of the Río Paraná, near the Rosario–Victoria Bridge; access is by boat. The Muelle del Batallón is about one kilometer away.

Use of the Reserve

For travel planning, it is important to know how the reserve is currently used: access is restricted to military training and survival exercises by personnel of the responsible unit, as well as related activities by personnel from other armed and security forces upon request. Its riverside location and boat access do not change this restriction.

History and Culture in Victoria

Victoria’s historic center was declared a “Bien de Interés Histórico Nacional” under National Law 25.686/02. The designation applies to the city’s historic center. Walking tours listed in Victoria include Casco Histórico, Las Rejas, Barrio Histórico 5° Cuartel and Cerro de la Matanza. A 2023 tourism overview listed these four tours; check in advance for current guided tour options.

The Museo Municipal Carlos Anadón is dedicated to the city’s historical heritage and to sharing cultural heritage. It publishes articles about Victoria’s history and is always open to contributions from the community. The Abadía del Niño Dios is also part of the city’s history: Benedictine monks from Belloc, France, founded the abbey in 1899. Guided visits are listed among Victoria’s tourist offerings; check the current conditions before visiting.

A 2023 tourism list also included the Museo de Antiguedades “La Estación del 5º” at Maipú y Las Lechuzas and the Museo del OVNI at San Miguel y Rondeau. That listing is not a current opening schedule. If you plan to visit either museum, check the visiting conditions in advance.

Nature and Outdoor Activities in the Department

A 2023 tourism overview listed boat trips and birdwatching in Victoria, amid a landscape of wetlands and rural areas. These activities appeal to different interests: a boat trip focuses on traveling through the waterways, while birdwatching focuses on observing wildlife. Check before your trip whether these activities are currently available. Trekking is also among the active tourism suggestions in Victoria; it is best to check specific routes and conditions locally.

For activities at Playa Victoria, a tourism directory from 2023 listed kayak, canoe, board and pedal-boat rentals, as well as basic rowing lessons. These listings do not confirm current availability. Ask in advance which offerings will actually be available during your travel dates.

Other Landscapes and Local Highlights

Laguna del Pescado is a settlement and Junta de Gobierno in Victoria Department. Surrounded by hills and diverse natural landscapes, it lies near the Reserva Natural Laguna del Pescado. Rincón de Nogoyá, meanwhile, is a semi-rural settlement in Victoria Department. Tourism and fishing take place there amid the surrounding flora and fauna; the settlement borders the ZAH PREDELTA DEL RÍO PARANÁ. These places add distinct landscapes to the city and island themes.

Wine and gastronomy are also among Victoria’s listed attractions. Bodega Borde Río is associated with winegrowing and vineyard offerings. Its multisensory experience combines different grape varieties and olive oils with nature, architecture, gastronomy and tourism. Product offerings may change; check in advance which elements are currently available during a visit.

Where to Stay and How to Choose a Hotel

When choosing a hotel, it is worth first deciding what your trip will focus on: the history and museums of Victoria, wildlife watching and boat trips, or the landscapes of the department. Plan your accommodation around the activities you actually want to visit, and check dated offers and visiting conditions before making them a fixed part of your trip.
