Eich is in the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland. Reasons to visit include a trail with elevation changes and views, a nature theme with a seasonal sound component, the lido on Lake Sempach, wine sales and historic buildings. These attractions are distinct and offer different ways to plan your day.
The Eich Circular Trail: elevation and views
The Eich Circular Trail leads from the village of Eich, at 530 m above sea level, up to Eichberg, at 750 m above sea level. The difference between the stated elevations is 220 metres. The circular trail starts and ends in the car park at the school buildings near Eich Parish Church. Along the way, it passes sandstone cliffs, waterfalls, ponds and biotopes. There are also views of Lake Sempach and the mountains. The named car park gives you a specific reference point for starting and returning; the elevation profile, landscape features and views describe different aspects of the route.
The Glögglifrosch Trail and the Roman Road
The Glögglifrosch Trail in Eich is dedicated to the endangered midwife toad, also known as the Glögglifrosch. It leads from the village pond to Oeleweiher pond and crosses the Roman Road. In the evenings from March to August, you can hear the toad's bell-like calls. If you want to visit to hear these calls, plan for both the evening hours and the period from March to August. The Roman Road itself is a peaceful high-level trail leading from Schenkon to Eich.
The trails offer different experiences: the Eich Circular Trail focuses on the climb and views of the lake and mountains. On the Glögglifrosch Trail, the dedicated species, the waypoints from the village pond to Oeleweiher pond, and the evening calls provide a point of reference. This lets you choose between an elevation-and-views perspective and a seasonal nature theme.
Swimming season on Lake Sempach
The lido in Eich on Lake Sempach offers swimming fun for the whole family. Facilities include a playground with a pirate ship, a paddling pool filled with lake water, a designated non-swimmer area and a raft. This means there are both water-based facilities and a play area. The lido is accessible on foot, by bicycle and by public transport.
Wine and buildings in Eich
The Brunner wine cellar in Eich offers direct wine sales and operates six vineyards with different grape varieties. If you plan to visit to buy wine, check the sales hours before your visit, as they may change. Winegrowing and direct sales offer two different ways to explore local wine.
Buildings also provide historical points of reference: the rectory is an old Lucerne patrician house built in 1661. The wooden Spycher granary in Eich dates from 1623. This means the Spycher can be dated earlier than the rectory; the two years mark separate points in time.
