Jenaz, in the Prättigau/Davos region, can be explored through a wide range of local highlights: historic timber houses and the Reformed church in the village, trails to the former Jenazer Bad and routes leading into the countryside. During your stay, you can choose between village history, cycling and play facilities, and seasonal tours.
Timber Houses and Village History
In the village centre of Jenaz and in Pragmartin, there are decorated old timber houses with numerous inscriptions. “ds Platzhus” is considered one of the largest and most imposing wooden houses in the Prättigau. At Haus Luzi, rows of hand-width beams projecting well beyond the façade are clearly visible. They illustrate the traditional construction of timber houses and make an architectural detail a striking feature of the village’s history.
The Reformed church also offers specific historical points of reference: it was first mentioned as St Peter’s Church in the first half of the 12th century. The choir was rebuilt in 1483, and the nave was remodelled in 1485. These two dates refer to different works on the same building and give the church a long, traceable history.
Trails, Countryside and Seasons
The walking trail to the former Jenazer Bad leads from the village through DĂĽrrwald forest to the former spa. There, the captured mineral water bubbles into a fountain beside the barbecue area. The trail thus connects the village centre and the forest with a destination whose name recalls its former use.
Another route leads to Alp Larein: it first passes through the Walser village of Jenaz, then climbs through Litziwald, Mittelwald and Schlegelwald forests. If you plan to take this route, check the trail conditions locally. During the summer months, Kuhalp Larein produces around 3,800 kilograms of alpine cheese, as well as alpine butter and Ziger cheese. The Jenaz Alpine Pasture and Dairy Cooperative grazes around 80 dairy cows on the alp. Production is seasonal, so these details refer to summer and do not describe a year-round offering.
A winter tour requires different conditions: when conditions are suitable, the ski tour descent from Glattwang can lead via Alp Larein to Jenaz. A hike from the Fideriser Heuberge to Jenaz offers a view from Alp Nova of the entire Rätikon range on the opposite side of the valley; visibility depends on the weather. These tours therefore differ not only by season, but also by their respective starting points and the conditions mentioned.
Cycling and Playing Together
The Swiss Bike Masters route passes through Pragg-Jenaz and Jenaz. It was considered a classic among mountain bike marathon races in Switzerland and can be split into daily stages. This describes one possible way to divide the route, not a prescribed length of stay.
The Jenaz pump track is free to use; helmets are compulsory. The outer track also has BMX-style features and a small starting ramp that makes jumping easier. This means you can include the pump track as a cycling destination in its own right, without confusing it with the longer Swiss Bike Masters route.
The Jenaz playground is designed to be barrier-free and accessible to everyone. Its play equipment enables children with and without disabilities to play together on the same equipment. There is a wheelchair-accessible parking space right next to the playground. Check the access details before you arrive if they are important to your plans.
Getting Here and Accommodation
Jenaz station is an unstaffed station operated by the Rhaetian Railway. Parking spaces operated by the Rhaetian Railway are available next to the station, as are ticket machines. There is also free parking near the station at the Säge car park. Check station services and access conditions before travelling.
A special accommodation option in the village is Haus am Platz, a traditional two-storey timber house on the village square. It can accommodate up to six people in three bedrooms. Availability and terms may change; confirm them before booking. In Pragg-Jenaz, the Prättigau organic cheese dairy processes regional organic milk from goats, sheep and cows. Together with the seasonal production at Alp Larein, dairy processing is one of the local features that shape Jenaz beyond its architectural history and trails.
