In Grüsch, winter activities on Danusa meet hiking trails, cycling routes and culture at the Rosengarten cultural centre. This makes it easy to tailor your stay to different interests, whether you want to enjoy winter sports, go for a walk or learn about the history of the Prättigau region.

Grüsch is a municipality in the canton of Graubünden and belongs to the Prättigau/Davos region. Since 1 January 2011, the municipality has comprised the villages of Grüsch, Fanas and Valzeina.

Winter on Grüsch-Danusa

The winter activities on Grüsch-Danusa range from blue to black ski runs. There is also boardercross, a fun park, cross-country skiing, winter hiking, snowshoeing and sledging. If you want to include a variety of activities in your winter holiday, you’ll find more than one way to spend time outdoors here. Activities and individual facilities may vary by season.

For children, there is a kids’ area right by the Schwänzelegg mountain station at an altitude of 1,800 metres. It features four magic carpets and ten different short runs. Beginners can practise their first turns there before continuing on the chairlift. The FuXpark is also located at 1,800 metres on the Danusa plateau. It has two courses, each with four rails: one for beginners and one for slightly more advanced children. In winter, the Grüsch-Danusa Swiss Ski School offers group and private lessons for children and adults in skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing. Check the current courses and seasonal activities before travelling.

Panoramic Hikes and Trails

The Grüsch-Danusa panoramic hiking trail starts and ends at the Schwänzelegg mountain lodge. Choose between a short 2-kilometre loop and a longer 4.6-kilometre loop. Along the way, the trail offers 360-degree views across the Prättigau to Klosters, the Silvretta range, the Rhine Valley and the Rätikon mountain range. As access may be seasonal, it’s a good idea to check current trail conditions before setting out.

A longer option is the Crupspitz Trail: rated easy, this 10.8-kilometre route starts in the village of Grüsch. On the way back, it passes the ruins of Solavers Castle. The options differ both in length and character, from the panoramic trail with two shorter loops to a trail with a historic stop along the way. Check trail conditions and signage before setting out.

The municipality has numerous hiking and cycling trails, and interactive trail maps can be downloaded. For an e-bike ride, the route from Grüsch to the Valcaus mountain restaurant runs mostly along paved agricultural access roads. Check trail conditions and whether the mountain restaurant is open in advance. If you’re looking for a short workout, Grüsch also has a Vita Parcours fitness trail: it runs for 2.8 kilometres through fields and woodland and has 15 stations with a total of 43 exercise options. The trail is free to use at any time, alone or with others.

Culture at the Rosengarten Cultural Centre

The Rosengarten cultural centre was built in the mid-16th century for the local noble family von Ott. Two-thirds of the building are open to the public, including the cellar theatre and the Prättigau local history museum. The museum is on the upper floor and spans four rooms. Its exhibition includes archaeological finds, alpine farming equipment, historic toys, everyday pottery by Lötscher and traditional crafts from various trades.

The cellar theatre hosts theatre and concert events featuring local theatre groups and cabaret artists. Dates may change. The Rosengarten thus brings together architectural history and contemporary cultural events in one place, while the local history museum showcases different aspects of regional daily life and craftsmanship.

More Things to Do in Grüsch

The Grüsch ice rink is open for skating from August to March. Friendly matches and league games played by HC Prättigau-Herrschaft take place there at weekends. Spectators are welcome, but match dates vary by season. From November, the hockey school runs on Tuesdays from 5:15 to 6:15 pm, where young hockey players can learn to skate through fun activities. Check the current match or course schedule before visiting.

For more active pursuits, Grüsch has a pump track and a bike trail. Together with the hiking and cycling trails, the Vita Parcours fitness trail and the seasonal activities on Danusa, they complement the cultural attractions with a range of options for active days.
