Arosa can be explored from several perspectives: biking on routes ranging from leisurely to challenging, visiting lakes, and following trails focused on specific themes or history. Different activities take center stage depending on the season: in summer, boat rentals are available on Lake Obersee, while cross-country ski trails and groomed winter hiking paths are part of the winter offering.
Biking, Hiking and Mountain Lakes
Arosa's biking routes range from leisurely to challenging, and from easy to difficult. Riding style and difficulty level are two different considerations: think about what kind of biking you are looking for and what level of challenge suits your plans. Specific route conditions may vary depending on the season and circumstances.
In addition, well-maintained, marked hiking trails in and around Arosa lead to crystal-clear mountain lakes and peaks reaching up to 2,900 metres. The lakes also differ in location: Lake Obersee lies at an altitude of 1,739 metres in the heart of Arosa and is the larger of the two lakes. In summer, you can take pedal boats, rowing boats or stand-up paddleboards out on the lake.
Lake Schwellisee is one of Arosa's ten mountain lakes and can be reached from Innerarosa via a short walk. Trail conditions may vary depending on the time of year. Winter Days in Arosa
The snow-reliable Arosa Lenzerheide ski area has 225 kilometres of groomed pistes and reaches an altitude of 2,865 metres above sea level. The Arosa area has 28 kilometres of classic cross-country ski trails and 22 kilometres of skating trails. Their availability depends on the season and weather.
If you would rather explore on foot than ski on cross-country trails, you will find more than 60 kilometres of groomed walking and winter hiking trails. Grooming and access depend on the season. When planning, it is therefore worth considering the different winter activities separately: downhill skiing, cross-country skiing and winter hiking each offer something different.
Bergkirchli and the Local Heritage Museum
Bergkirchli was completed in 1493 and is the oldest building in Arosa. It is a protected historic monument and can only be visited during church services, concerts or guided tours. During the summer and winter seasons, a romantic 45-minute short concert takes place there every Tuesday at 5 pm. Check the current concert and tour schedule before your visit.
The Schanfigg-Arosa Local Heritage Museum is housed in the Eggahuus in Inner-Arosa, one of the oldest houses in the village. Built around 1600, this log building houses a collection about the history, customs, daily life in the past and crafts of Arosa and the Schanfigg region. The collection includes, among other things, a weaving room, a house organ, tools and a sports section featuring skis and sleds. The museum is open for self-guided visits; check the current opening hours in advance.
Themed Trails and Wildlife Watching
The 3-kilometre Ricola Experience Trail Arosa passes ten stations and operates seasonally. The family-friendly trail is flat between stations and mostly paved; it is also suitable for pushchairs. This makes it easy to assess the trail surface, while its seasonal operating period should be taken into account when planning.
You can watch and feed squirrels on the Arosa Squirrel Trail at any time of year. Ten illustrated storybook panels tell the animals' story. The trail starts at the Vita-Parcours in Arosa and ends at the Maran bus stop. At Arosa Bear Sanctuary, the visitor platform offers a view of the entire outdoor enclosure and provides information about animal welfare, brown bears and their biology. The sanctuary gives bears rescued from poor living conditions a home suited to their needs and is located right next to the middle station of the Arosa Weisshorn aerial cableway.
