A preserved Pierre de justice, stained-glass windows in the Chapelle Sainte-Bernadette and a species-rich nature reserve reveal different sides of Laconnex. The municipality is in the canton of Geneva. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can first decide whether wine, cultural heritage or nature should be the focus of your stay.

Vineyards, wine and tastings

Château de Laconnex works with twelve grape varieties, from which 14 crus are now produced. These two figures link grape varieties and crus, giving local winegrowing a clear identity. The history of Chardonnay is part of it too: the winegrowers Samuel & Julien Lang were the first to introduce this grape variety to Laconnex.

Vinimab’s vineyards are located in the municipality on the slopes of Breux and Rupettes; Vinimab vinifies its wines at Domaine des Trois Lacs in Laconnex. Domaine du Château de Laconnex offers tastings by appointment from Monday to Saturday. The tasting venue is in a hangar at the exit of Laconnex village towards Soral. Four tasting boxes are currently available: white wines, red wines, the classics and gastronomy. Check the appointment arrangements and current selection before planning your visit, as packages and offers may change.

Biodiversity in the Réserve naturelle

The Réserve naturelle de Laconnex was established after Pro Natura Genève and the state jointly acquired a plot of land. Today, the nature reserve is very open in character and provides a refuge for numerous species in the heart of the Champagne genevoise. At least 117 plant species are found there. The current amphibian tally comprises six species: three frog species, one toad species and two newt species. In addition, 19 dragonfly species have been observed in Laconnex, including four species threatened in Switzerland. The number of plant species indicates the breadth of the flora; the amphibian and dragonfly figures highlight specific animal groups.

History in stone and glass

A preserved Pierre de justice on the La Feuillée plain, between the villages of Laconnex and Noircier, marks the former boundary between the jurisdiction of Saint-Victor and the House of Geneva. Place du Four-Banal recalls a former communal oven. There, grandmothers baked their families’ dough into loaves weighing three to four pounds once a week.

The Chapelle Sainte-Bernadette was built in 1958 to plans by architect Pierre Comé. Its stained-glass windows by Jean Roll were inaugurated on 21 September 1996. The Way of the Cross ensemble comprises seven small openings in shades of green, white, black and blue. They symbolise the seven final Stations of the Cross.
