Leimiswil is not centred around a single village core: its dispersed settlement, 16er Linden Trees and Steinhaufen fire pit offer different ways to explore the area. You can choose what to focus on – for example, a bike ride with historical connections, a path along the edge of the forest or a cultural event.

A dispersed settlement with several hamlets

Leimiswil is a locality in the political municipality of Madiswil in the Canton of Bern, in the Oberaargau region of the Swiss Plateau. It is a dispersed settlement without a true village centre. The larger hamlets include Lindenholz, Leimiswil and Linden; there are also numerous isolated farms. This is a useful starting point for finding your way around: focus on individual destinations rather than planning all your activities around a central village square.

16er Linden Trees: activity and remembrance

The specially developed bike trails lead to selected 16er Linden Trees, including the four in the municipality of Madiswil. One of them stands in Leimiswil. The 16er Linden Tree routes also include the area, combining nature, history and activity. Since 1988, the lime trees have been planted as a living memorial to the regiment. This makes the theme a combination of outdoor activity and a tangible connection to remembrance.

Steinhaufen fire pit on the edge of the forest

The Steinhaufen fire pit is located above Leimiswil, right on the edge of the forest, in hilly countryside at an elevated location. From there, the view stretches far across the region. A short walk along the edge of the forest leads to the fire pit. You can cycle there by mountain bike or bicycle; if you drive, you can reach Leimiswil by car and continue on foot. Check the current conditions locally when planning your visit. Steinhaufen is therefore a destination with a short walk and far-reaching views, alongside the routes to the lime trees.

Walks, workshops and regional cuisine

With Lavendel Erlebnis, you can explore the surroundings of Leimiswil on a leisurely walk with llamas. These walks may be subject to seasonal and booking conditions. The focus here is on travelling with the animals, while the Steinhaufen fire pit is a single destination on the edge of the forest. Lavendel Erlebnis also offers workshops and events for individuals, friends and groups.

Homemade delicacies and regional and seasonal specialities are served at Lavendel Erlebnis under the lime tree on the Eichholzhöhe by the lavender field, beneath the cherry trees or on the terrace. Helen and Markus Wegmüller grow fragrant lavender, bright blue edible lupins and raspberries on their farm in Leimiswil.

Culture and getting around

More than 1,100 guests attend the Männerchor Leimiswil’s theatre performances every year. Together with the workshops and events at Lavendel Erlebnis, this offers a range of cultural formats: recurring annual theatre performances as well as activities for individuals, friends and groups.

The Eichholz farm area is about a 20-minute walk from Kleindietwil railway station. If you are travelling by public transport, check the timetables in advance, as they may change.
