The Bureälven flows into the sea at Bureå; Danielsten havsbad lies about one kilometre to the east. Other attractions include a church in the Swedish National Romantic style, a museum about the sawmill and pulp industries, and a permanent LEGO exhibition. Bureå therefore offers several distinct themes for a stay. When choosing what to see, it is worth weighing up the beach, river, architecture and local history: these highlights appeal to different interests and can be incorporated into your travel plans accordingly.

Architecture and Industrial History

Bureå Church was built between 1917 and 1920 and designed by Fredrik Falkenberg. It is considered one of the outstanding examples of Swedish National Romantic architecture. If you are interested in architecture, its construction period, architect and style provide a concise introduction to architectural history: the church can be placed in its historical context and viewed as a work of Swedish National Romantic architecture.

Bure Arkiv, a working-life museum in Bureå, offers a different perspective on the town’s history. Its permanent exhibition explores the local sawmill and pulp industries. The design of an individual building and the history of local industries thus offer distinct approaches to cultural history.

Bureå Hembygdspark also adds to the picture of local architectural and everyday history: the park contains a smithy. It lies east of the parish hall in the town centre and was inaugurated in 1933. Another historic building in the parish of Bureå is the Åbacka Pavilion, built in 1897.

Beach, River and Fishing

Danielsten havsbad lies about one kilometre east of Bureå and has a gently sloping beach with fine-grained sand. Facilities include a volleyball court, changing rooms, toilets and a playground. These features make the beach a distinct option for a stay by the water; it is also clearly different from the themes of architecture and industrial history.

The Bureälven flows into the sea at Bureå. Its final stretch, about three kilometres long, consists of flowing water and offers fishing for trout, grayling, pike and perch. If you plan to fish, check the local rules, as they may change. Unlike at the beach, the focus here is not on sand and facilities but on a stretch of river with fishing opportunities.

LEGO and Traces on Klosterholmen

Sweden’s largest permanent LEGO exhibition is located at Bureå Camping. Alongside the LEGO Museum, there is a LEGO building tent where visitors can create their own designs. The LEGO experience therefore includes both viewing the exhibition and taking part in a hands-on creative activity. Opening hours may vary by season; check in advance which hours apply to your visit.

Building outlines and the remains of a cellar can be found on Klosterholmen; parts of the buildings have been excavated. A walking and cycling path along the Bureälven leads to Klosterholmen. If you would like to combine local history with a walk or ride, this route offers a specific point of interest. The archaeological finds on Klosterholmen offer a different focus from the church, Hembygdspark and museum: here, the emphasis is on building outlines, cellar remains and excavated parts of buildings.
