The orange-marked Turingeleden runs along the southern shore of Lake Turingen in Nykvarn and is 3.8 kilometres long. The entire loop in Jägarskogen Nature Reserve is 3 kilometres; a 1.5-kilometre section there is suitable for pushchairs. The western Strandstigen is about 0.7 kilometres long. This lets you compare the signposted routes by length, noting that pushchair access applies to the section in Jägarskogen mentioned above.

Forest, bog and water

Jägarskogen lies on the northern shore of Lake Yngern. The reserve has marked circular trails, a swimming area, a lakeside barbecue area and a wind shelter. Its stated purpose is to preserve and develop a varied forest with high natural values and great importance for local recreation. The trails and places to stop are part of the natural setting described here.

Another natural highlight is Björkviksmossen in Nykvarn Municipality. The 15-hectare nature reserve has been protected since 1996. It includes a small pine bog surrounded by near-natural coniferous forest and is home to protected species on the Red List. Lake Yngern, meanwhile, is defined by its depth, size and highly indented shape; it also has numerous fishing spots.

The connecting section of the Sörmlandsleden begins about 100 metres west of Nykvarn railway station. It passes through old forest to the northern part of Lake Yngern and reaches Sandtorpsbadet after about 6 kilometres. For navigating this route, both the starting point near the station and the approximate distance to the bathing area are specified.

On the water, the 27-kilometre Åkers Styckebruk–Nykvarn canoe route passes through Visnaren, the Marviken lakes, Klämmingen, Stora and Lilla Kvarnsjön, and Gullsmorasjön before reaching Lake Yngern. The route is considered easy to paddle, but includes seven portages. The longest is 700 metres. Planning the route therefore involves several stretches on land as well as paddling.

Discover history and culture

Different historical periods come together at Turinge Church. The oldest part of the church dates from the 12th century. In the entrance hall there is a 10th-century runestone with one of the longest inscriptions in Södermanland. The church also has a funerary chapel designed by Erik Dahlbergh, considered one of Sweden’s more significant Baroque monuments.

Smedsbygget is a local history museum in a former residence for the company’s blacksmiths; its exhibitions focus on local history. At Taxinge Castle, architectural history can be combined with a visit to the café: the present main building was constructed between 1806 and 1813 and has undergone no major changes since. The café offers around 65 varieties of home-baked goods; the selection may vary by season. Coffee is served in the library or, weather permitting, in the park.

Experiences in the centre and for families

Folkets Park is in central Nykvarn and is a century-old retro attraction. The park has a rotunda and food and drink facilities, as well as space for mini golf, boules and other activities. Activity details may change. If you are coming for a particular activity, it is best to check what is currently on offer in advance.

Lådbilslandet offers activities and experiences for children aged 3 to 9 and is designed as a full-day family outing. This means that Nykvarn’s nature trails and historic sites sit alongside attractions specifically aimed at a particular age group.
