Sundbyberg offers a variety of discoveries: Marabouparken highlights park history and art, while meadows, woodland and a bird lake shape the character of the nature reserves. Culture and outdoor activity are different sides of a stay here—from viewing a sculpture collection to following trails through varied landscapes.

Discover Nature Reserves and Waters

Igelbäcken Nature Reserve was established to protect Igelbäcken and preserve the surrounding landscape for outdoor recreation and nature experiences. This protection was put in place in 2004. The many trails, exercise routes and varied natural surroundings also make the area interesting for physical activity. A loop of about one kilometre is marked as a wheelchair route and can be travelled by wheelchair. If you plan to take this route, check the latest route details before your visit.

In Rissne ängar Nature Reserve, open meadows alternate with wooded hills where pine trees more than 300 years old grow. Facilities include playgrounds, a children’s pool, barbecue areas, a toboggan run and large open spaces. If you have a particular facility in mind, check its condition in advance. The area is also part of a larger green space stretching from Rissne to Lake Råstasjön in Solna; walking through green spaces takes you across Sundbyberg.

Lötsjön-Golfängarna Nature Reserve offers a different landscape, with woodland and open lawns as well as a bird lake. Several walking and cycling paths cross the area. A playground, paddling pool and ball court add to the opportunities for exercise and recreation that the reserve offers year-round. Water also shapes Sundbyberg’s landscape: alongside Lake Lötsjön, Bällstaviken and Lake Ulvsundasjön are the only larger open bodies of water. The Bällstaån flows through Sundbyberg and, after passing through Bällstaviken and Lake Ulvsundasjön, empties into Lake Mälaren.

Trails, Sports and Exercise

For a range of route preferences, the Ursvik exercise area offers five different trail lengths as well as an activity trail for children. NickspĂĄret is another option for cyclists: the mountain-bike trail is about 12.5 kilometres long and can be divided into shorter sections.

In winter, Ursvik also offers a two-kilometre artificial-snow ski trail. Its operation depends on winter conditions. If you prefer to exercise in an indoor swimming pool or gym, Sundbybergs simhall och gym has five swimming pools, a gym, group exercise classes, and a dry sauna and steam sauna.

Park History, Art and Local Culture

Landscape architect Sven Hermelin worked on Marabouparken from 1937 to 1955. Public access was a condition of Marabou’s purchase of the land on which the park was planned. In 2008, Marabouparken was named Sweden’s most beautiful park. The park has a sculpture collection featuring works by Swedish and international artists. Marabouparken konsthall is a venue for contemporary art, talks and educational activities; individual exhibitions and programmes change over time.

Duvbo also offers cultural points of interest: the area includes large gardens, a street network, parks, a church, a school, a fire station, lush vegetation and historic villas. Duvbo kyrka was inaugurated in 1904; its façades are designed in a simple, freely interpreted Gothic Revival style. Another trail leads to 16 literary signs in Sundbyberg, each associated with an author connected to Sundbyberg. The museum presents Sundbyberg’s history and also displays works by local artists Carl Fagerberg, Carl Johan Dyfverman and Gustav Hyllengren. Individual displays may change.

The annual National Day celebration is among the recurring events: since 2005, 6 June has been celebrated at Golfängarna as a large festival for all residents. Check the dates for the relevant year before visiting.
