238 islands, numerous lakes, deep forests and blooming meadows: Osby Municipality combines a varied landscape with marked circular trails, paddling routes and cultural sites. If you enjoy spending time outdoors, you can compare trails of different lengths; exhibitions and historic sites also tell stories of toy-making, diabase quarrying and a former border fortification.
Circular trails with different perspectives
The Näset peninsula has two marked circular trails, 1.4 and 1.8 kilometres long. The marked Klinten loop is about two kilometres long and can be completed in its entirety with a stroller. From the viewpoint, you can see for miles across Osby and the lake. The hiking trail around Hjärtasjön is about three kilometres long, passes through mixed forest and offers lake views. The distances make for a direct comparison: the trail around Hjärtasjön is the longest of the trails mentioned here.
The Osbysjön is ideal for a peaceful family paddle around the Näset peninsula. On the Helge å, a short, calm and beginner-friendly paddling route runs between Kornberga and Visseltofta, suitable for adults and children. There are different waters and routes to choose from: a peaceful paddling option on the lake and a river section that is explicitly beginner-friendly.
There are also several waters to choose from for fishing. Fishing on the Osbysjön is free for beginners and experienced anglers; species found there include carp, pike, perch, burbot and trout. Skeingesjön and Helge å offer varied fishing waters with many fish species. There is also a boat launch at the northern end of Skeingesjön. Trout fishing is possible in both fast-flowing and calm water along an approximately 20-kilometre stretch of river between Delaryd and Hästberga.
Exhibitions and historic sites
Sliperiet Gylsboda has a permanent exhibition featuring old photographs of diabase quarrying from the early 20th century, as well as an exhibition about minerals and fossils. Visits are by appointment. The exhibitions thus bring together images from the history of quarrying with minerals and fossils.
The exhibitions at Lekoseum trace the history of BRIO: from its first toy, made in 1907, through the classic Osby horse to the popular wooden railway from 1958. The classic Osby horse is also among the exhibition themes.
Örnanäs is the first cultural reserve in Skåne. The entire historic cultural environment is protected, including its landscape, buildings, knowledge and traditions. Visitors can walk through the historic farm landscape among buildings, house foundations, fields and meadows. The route therefore passes through an environment where both the architectural remains and the landscape are part of the cultural reserve.
Another historic site is Sibbarps skans. The fortification was built during the Kalmar War of 1611–1613 to reinforce the Danish-Swedish border.
Forest and trails around Nyteboda
Nytebodaskogen is the only coniferous forest in Skåne with a character similar to a protected forest; it is home to pine trees over 200 years old. There is a car park by the nature reserve. The Skåneleden, SL1 Kust till kust, Stage 5, runs east–west through Nyteboda. The reserve also has a circular trail several kilometres long. This lets you distinguish between the long-distance trail through Nyteboda and the additional circular trail in the reserve.
There is a bus stop in Glimåkra and a train connection in Osby along the Skåneleden route from Glimåkra to Osby. If you are planning your hike using public transport, check the timetables for your intended journey in advance.
