Those who want to explore Klippan on foot can choose from several named routes with different lengths and characteristics. The town’s history also has tangible points of interest: a church with artworks by several artists, preserved railway buildings, and traces of textile and paper production.

Walking routes through Klippan

Blomgrens promenad loops around central parts of the built-up area and is about 2.5 kilometres long. A map showing the route and sights is available from Klippan Library or the municipal building; check availability locally. Åslingan starts at Elfdalens Motionsanläggning, next to the campsite in the eastern built-up area. It is 3.1 kilometres long; the route is 3.6 kilometres if you include the section north of the Bäljane å.

The short Sagostigen branches off from Åslingan. Wooden sculptures make this detour a discovery in its own right for younger walkers. Elfdalsslingan is a three-kilometre illuminated loop. It partly follows the Bäljane å; with a little luck, you may spot grey wagtails, dippers and common sandpipers there.

Another route, Cösterslingan, starts in the centre at Läderbackarna and heads towards the allotment garden area on Kolonigatan. You can also spot kingfishers and dragonflies along the Bäljane å in the Cösterslingan area. If you are looking for another loop through town, Blomgrens promenad takes you around the central built-up areas.

Buildings, art and local history

S:t Petri Church stands centrally in the town park. Sigurd Lewerentz designed the building, which was constructed between 1962 and 1966. Its furnishings include a double tapestry created by Sven X:et Eriksson and woven by Barbro Nilsson, an ivory crucifix designed by Christian Berg, and Berg’s outdoor sculpture “Nådens skålar”. Together, these works bring textile art and sculpture into dialogue with the history of the church building.

The townscape also reflects different periods of construction. The oldest more cohesive development in Klippan consists of simple street houses; buildings in the more central areas along Storgatan and Järnvägsgatan have a more monumental character. Askahuset was built in 1864–1865 by Vice District Judge Fritz Ask. The public sculpture “Fredsfågel” by Antonio Pasquini dates from 2018 and stands at the intersection of Allégatan and Järnvägsgatan.

The railway area preserves a well-maintained station building, as well as an engine shed and a water tower from the steam locomotive era. A Cykelleden Skåne route also starts and ends at the station. This is distinct from stage seven of Cykelleden Skåne 101, which connects Klippan and Åstorp over 14.9 kilometres and is described as easy.

Klippan Yllefabrik began in 1879 on Järnvägsgatan as a small wool spinning mill. Today, it has a factory shop selling its regular range and outlet products. Paper production is also part of the area’s history: Klippans Papierfabrik lies south of the built-up area, on the Rönne å, where paper has a long tradition. Paths and walking trails run alongside the factory near the river.

Folkets hus/Kulturcenter was completed in 1907. Historically, celebrations, weddings, meetings, soirées, anniversaries, parades and theatre events were held in the building and the adjacent park. The Blomgren photo archive offers another glimpse into local history: it contains environmental, group and portrait photographs from 1897 to the early 1950s. The images can be browsed in the libraries of Klippan Municipality.

Riverside scenery and activities

Along the Rönne å, calm, glassy stretches give way to wild rapids. Three power plants dam the river near Klippan, forming lakes in the landscape. The Rönneå canoe route in Klippan Municipality is part of an 85-kilometre route between Västra Ringsjön and Skälderviken. A canoe trip along the Rönne å from Djupadalsmölla to Herrevadskloster covers about 16 kilometres and takes around five hours. Route conditions and booking arrangements may change; check them before your trip.

You can fish in the Rönne å and the Bäljane å. Digital fishing permits are available for several stretches and fishing spots along the rivers. Söderåsen National Park is one of the destinations in Klippan Municipality. The Naturum Söderåsen visitor centre is located at the Skäralid entrance to the national park.
