Nyhamnsläge can be explored through its coastal landscape and the history of a former fishing village. The nature reserves feature both distinctive landscapes and prehistoric traces; historic landmarks of the village can be found around the harbour. Seasonal sailing activities and sauna bathing are also available. To plan your stay, you can start by considering whether nature, local history or a specific club activity will shape your visit.
Coast, nature reserves and early traces
The Nyhamnsläge–Lerhamn Nature Reserve stretches for about 2 km along the coast of the Kullaberg Peninsula. It contains a stone circle from the Iron Age and a few burial mounds from the Bronze Age. These sites add a prehistoric perspective to the coastal landscape.
The Nyhamnsläge–Strandbaden Nature Reserve includes coastal heathland around a moraine ridge that extends into the sea at Kullens havsbad. The Skåneleden trail runs through the entire reserve. If you are planning a hike, the landscape described and the named trail offer specific points of reference for your decision.
From fishing village to the name Nyhamnsläge
Nyhamnsläge was originally a fishing village called Nyhamn. The first house on the site that later became today’s Nyhamnsläge was built in 1778. When a railway station was built on the line to Mölle, the name was changed to Nyhamnsläge: Nyhamn was already in use for another place in Sweden. The date of the house and the name change describe different aspects of the village’s history: 1778 refers to the first house, while the change relates to the construction of the railway station and the name already being in use.
The oldest buildings in Nyhamnsläge are in the blocks around the harbour. Nyhamn’s first proper landing pier was built in the early 19th century. Alongside the story of the name, this provides a specific location for the oldest houses and a time reference for the harbour’s history.
