At Farhultsbaden, the bathing area on Skälderviken is designated as an EU bathing water. Farhult therefore offers several different points of interest for your trip: beach and dunes, seasonal birdwatching, and a historic setting with a church and a mill. When planning, consider which focus will shape your stay. Spring and autumn are particularly relevant for resting songbirds; the historic buildings and remnants of paintings add a distinct historical dimension. You can therefore tailor your visit to Farhult around its coastal landscape, birdlife or cultural history.
Coast and walking trails
The Utvälinge–Jonstorp section passes Farhultsbaden, with its beach and soft sand dunes. The beach and dunes are thus specific landscape features of this stretch of trail. The coastal meadows crossed by a path are remnants of the historic Kulla fälad pastureland. This connection to former grazing practices adds a historical dimension to the coastal landscape. When planning your time by the water and on the trails, the distance to the bus stop may also be useful: Farhultsbaden bus stop is about 700 metres from the beach. Check the current timetable before planning a bus trip.
Birdwatching throughout the year
The Farhult/Jonstorp birdwatching site can be used year-round, although conditions may vary by season. The beach meadows and nearby bushes often attract resting songbirds in spring and autumn. The species present may vary depending on the season. Two aspects are therefore worth distinguishing when planning: the site can be used year-round, while spring and autumn are the particularly highlighted periods for resting songbirds.
At the Farhult section of Kullaleden, an observation platform lies northwest of the trail. Check local access conditions when you arrive. This lets you include birdwatching in your plans without losing sight of the seasonal nature of the birdlife.
The church and mill as historical landmarks
Farhults kyrka is a Romanesque church built in the early 13th century. The church contains remnants of 13th-century wall paintings. Its construction date and paintings provide two specific historical points of interest: you can view the church both in terms of its Romanesque style and its surviving wall paintings. The historic setting of Farhults kyrka also includes a tithe barn, a vicarage and a school.
Farhults mölla is a Dutch-style windmill built in 1850. It lies a few hundred metres north of the church. The two buildings therefore mark different periods: the church dates from the early 13th century, while the mill was built in 1850. Farhult’s history thus brings medieval church architecture and a much later style of mill construction side by side.
