Several ways of discovering the town come together in Höganäs: the KKAM Museum explores local history, at Prova på-drejning you can try your hand at the potter’s wheel, and Höganäs Kulturhus brings together various cultural facilities. Kvickbadet also features in two of the route sections described here. You can therefore shape your stay around local history, hands-on ceramics or routes that pass by the water.

Local history and production

The KKAM Museum features an exhibition on the history of Höganäs. Its topics include the fishing village, brickyards, Folkparken, and the local production of ceramics, corsets and books. Its scope therefore extends beyond a single craft. If you are interested in the history of the town, the exhibition introduces you to different chapters of its local production and culture.

Two dates provide a timeline for the town’s industrial and craft history: a brickyard was founded in Höganäs in the 1820s, and production of lead-glazed ceramic household goods began around 1830. These are useful reference points for planning your trip if you want to explore Höganäs not only through individual attractions, but also through its history and production traditions.

Kulturhus and the library garden

Höganäs Kulturhus is a meeting place with Sweden’s newest library, an exhibition hall, a stage, a café and spaces for meetings. The building also has Sweden’s only library garden, with greenery and seating. Unlike the KKAM Museum’s exhibition on local history, Kulturhus encompasses several facilities and the garden. This difference can help you choose your cultural focus: would you rather explore the local-history topics mentioned above, or are you more interested in the different spaces of a cultural centre?

Try your hand at ceramics

The Prova på-drejning activity begins with an introduction and demonstration. Participants can then make their own piece on the potter’s wheel. A ceramicist from KKAM provides personal guidance and supervision; after the throwing session, the workshop staff fire and glaze the piece. The activity thus combines an introduction with hands-on practice and expert guidance. If you are interested in this practical side of ceramics, plan ahead: the activity must be arranged in advance.

Route sections linked to Kvickbadet

The Helsingborg–Höganäs section of the Kattegattleden runs along the water and leads to Kvickbadet beach, south of Höganäs harbour. A section of the Kullaleden covers the route from the harbour of Viken (Vikens hamn) to Kvickbadet in Höganäs. The beach is therefore a shared reference point in the two route descriptions. While the Kattegattleden description notes that the route runs along the water, the Kullaleden description names the two endpoints. You can compare the sections based on their respective descriptions.

These topics offer different approaches to planning, without requiring you to follow a set order during your stay.
