Flyinge combines a long tradition of horse breeding with historic parkland and natural areas in the surrounding countryside. The Kävlingeån divides the village into northern and southern parts. This helps you find your way between the different destinations: Flyinge Kungsgård is known for horse culture and history, while Flyinge ängar and nearby Linnebjer offer different landscapes.

Horse Culture and History at Flyinge Kungsgård

The tradition of breeding and raising horses at Flyinge Kungsgård dates back to the Middle Ages. The grounds also include a park, laid out in the first decades of the 19th century according to the ideals of a landscape park of the time. The horse-related history and parkland offer different focal points for a visit: you can view the historic buildings and explore the grounds independently.

Information boards outside most of the buildings tell their stories. The stables and riding halls are open to visitors daily from 08:00 to 16:00; check the opening times before you travel. A guided tour of Flyinge Kungsgård must be booked in advance. This means you can choose between exploring independently and attending a scheduled guided tour.

The events calendar is also centred on equestrian sports. Each year, Flyinge hosts the Flyinge Indoor show jumping competition, with classes up to the advanced level. Flyinge Hästsportklubb regularly holds local and national competitions in various equestrian disciplines. If a particular competition is the reason for your trip, check the latest dates in advance.

Two Nature Destinations, Different Landscapes

The Flyinge ängar nature reserve stretches south of Flyinge. Flower-rich sandy slopes give way to damp riverside meadows near the Kävlingeån. The dry, nutrient-poor slopes are rich in meadow flora; they may be home to, among other species, the rare Frölöpare and a small, hairy wild bee. The transition between dry slopes and wetter meadows shapes the character of this area.

In the northeastern part of Flyinge ängar, car parks are located right by the village of Flyinge; the Flyinge Plantskolevägen bus stop is immediately adjacent. If you plan to travel by bus, check the current timetable. Nearby Linnebjer offers a different landscape as an alternative: a marked path about 1.5 kilometres long runs through the woodland. Today, the forest consists mainly of oak and hazel. You can therefore choose between a short, marked woodland trail and the open sequence of sandy slopes and riverside meadows for different nature experiences.

Plan Your Cycling Route and Breaks

The suggested Eslöv–Lund cycling route passes Flyinge Kungsgård and continues to the village of Flyinge. About half of the route follows paved cycle paths; the rest uses smaller paved roads shared with other traffic. This information describes the suggested route as a whole; check the route details before setting out.

For a break, Café Smedjan is right next to the garden centre. The menu includes coffee or tea with homemade cakes, pastries and chocolate balls, as well as salads and filled sandwiches. The selection may change. When planning your day, you can balance horse history, nature and cycling, and choose a suitable place to stop for a break.
