Värnamo offers several distinct highlights for a stay: walking trails and local history in Apladalen, art and design exhibitions, and mountain biking. This variety can help you decide whether culture, park walks or cycling should be the focus of your visit.

Apladalen: Park Trails and Local History

The 22-hectare Apladalen is a nature and local heritage park in the centre of Värnamo. Walking trails run through the park, which is also home to cottages dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. The combination of trails and historic cottages appeals to travellers who would like to experience both nature and local history during the same visit. The park offers a different kind of visit from the city's art and design exhibitions.

Bruno Mathsson and Swedish Design

The Bruno Mathsson Center brings together furniture and architecture: classic furniture by Bruno Mathsson is on display, and he also designed the exhibition hall himself. Both the furniture and the exhibition space are therefore part of the design experience. Groups of up to 25 people can book a guided tour in advance throughout the year. Check availability before travelling if you are planning a tour.

Art and Changing Exhibitions

Vandalorum is an art and design centre with 10 to 15 unique exhibitions each year. If you want to visit a particular exhibition, check in advance what will be on display on your travel dates. Vandalorum is also home to Smålands Konstarkiv. Its exhibitions primarily feature artists with ties to Småland, giving the art visit a regional focus.

Blickfånget, the Gummifabriken art gallery, also presents changing exhibitions. On display is art in various forms or on current topics. Together with Vandalorum's focus on design and the regional focus of Smålands Konstarkiv, this offers a choice of different exhibition themes without assuming a particular programme.

Church and History

The current Värnamo kyrka was inaugurated in 1875, replacing an earlier church dating from 1776. Its artistic details include so-called cathedral windows, painted by R. Callmander from Gothenburg. The church is open daily from 09:00 to 16:00, and until around 18:45 on Wednesdays. Check the opening hours before your visit.

Getting There and Finding Your Way

Värnamo is a railway junction with train connections between Gothenburg and Karlskrona or Kalmar, and between Halmstad and Nässjö or Jönköping. Check timetables and operators for your travel dates. For road directions to Vandalorum, its junction provides a specific reference point: the centre is located where the E4 and National Road 27 meet, at E4 exit 84.

Mountain Biking and Borgenstugan

Borgen Outdoor offers groomed mountain bike trails with varying technical difficulty levels. The facilities include a Swedish Championship course, several family-friendly trails and a pump track. The enduro trails feature jumps, drops, berms and skinnies. The trails described therefore vary not only in technical difficulty but also in their features. As individual facilities may change, check the current trail information before your visit.

Borgenstugan has public toilets, changing rooms, showers and a sauna.
