A Swedish standard unit of measurement, a single-nave granite building from the early 12th century and a bathing spot on Lake Helgasjön offer three very different ways to discover Rydaholm. Add the history of a local meeting place, sports facilities and a scenic stretch of road. This makes it easy to explore the town according to your interests: church and local history, water and activities, or the surrounding landscape.

Parish Church and the Rydaholmsaln

Rydaholm Parish Church is a single-nave granite building from the early 12th century. The tower with its twin spires and the porch are original. Inside are a triumphal cross, a baptismal font and several medieval stone reliefs. Together, the architectural features and furnishings offer different perspectives on the parish church.

A copy of the Rydaholmsaln is now on display at the south portal of the church. It is a copy made in 1664; following a resolution by the Riksdag in 1604, the ell was used as Sweden’s standard unit of measurement for the ell. The two dates refer to different steps: 1604 is the year of the resolution, and 1664 the date of the displayed copy. This distinction connects a tangible piece of local history with the history of an earlier Swedish unit of measurement.

A meeting place from the 1930s

Rydaholm Folkets Park was started in 1930 and completed as a local meeting place in 1931. Its origins stand in clear contrast to the early medieval church building. Its purpose is also different: here, the focus is on the history of a local meeting place, while the church is a historic building with period features and furnishings. The park thus adds a more recent perspective on community life to the history of the church and its architecture.

Water, sports and activities

Hjortsjöbadet, a bathing spot in Rydaholm, lies on Lake Helgasjön and has a small sandy beach, a bathing jetty and a playground. Its facilities combine time by the water with a play area. Swimming conditions may vary, so check the current situation before planning a swim.

Rydaholm multiarena has a basketball court, an artificial turf field, an outdoor fitness area and a shelter. It caters to a range of sports and activities: basketball, sports on artificial turf and outdoor training. As facilities may change over time, it is a good idea to check for the latest information before visiting. A mountain bike trail also runs through the Rydaholm Elljusspår.

Landscape and getting here

Getaryggarna is a scenic stretch of road west of the current Route 27, between Bor and Rydaholm. This aspect of the landscape complements the history of the buildings and town with a view of the surrounding area.

Rydaholm lies on Route 27 and is served by buses. It also has a railway station where Krösatåg trains on the Kust till kust line stop. Road, bus and rail are all possible options to consider when planning your journey. If you plan to travel by bus or train, check the current timetable in advance.
