Drawing art and the historic layers of the town

The Teckningsmuseet in Laholm is the only museum of drawing art in the Nordic countries. Its exhibitions feature works by Nordic and international artists. The public programme also includes workshops, lectures and concerts. Exhibitions and programme offerings may change.

The Rådhuset on Stortorget in the centre of Laholm was completed in 1794. It is open to the public and offers cultural activities, including exhibitions. Laholm’s inner-city area is designated as a nationally significant cultural environment, with a medieval town layout and the Lagaholm ruins. Lagaholm is a castle ruin in the centre, right next to the power station on the Lagan. Lagaholm is mentioned as early as 1231 in the land register of the Danish King Valdemar.

The Laholms Keramikmuseum has a permanent exhibition focused on ceramics made in Laholm during the 20th century. The presentation links the material to the local history of production; individual exhibits may change. Laholm’s public art collection comprises 40 works of art, 26 of which belong to the municipality. Collection figures may change as works are added or removed.

Green spaces and trails

In Stadsparken, right in the centre, you’ll find a jungle stream, a savannah landscape and a woodland area. Large parts of the park are accessible to wheelchairs and mobility scooters. In the Hökafältet nature reserve, walks pass over open sand dunes and through dense pine forest. A 2.5-kilometre trail there is specially adapted for wheelchairs, mobility scooters and pushchairs. Check the relevant conditions before your visit.

Osbecks bokskogar has several marked walking loops among rare mosses and various prehistoric remains. The trails connect traces of nature and history: alongside the mosses, you’ll also encounter evidence of prehistoric times on the loops.

Coast and water sports

Laholm Municipality has a 12-kilometre sandy beach stretching from Båstad in the south to the mouth of the Lagan in the north. Special windsurfing zones have been established along this beach. Skummeslövsstrand and Mellbystrand are particularly suitable for kitesurfing because of their gently sloping waters. Water conditions and local advisories may change; check the latest information before taking part in water sports.

Within the municipality, the Kattegattleden passes the coastal resorts of Skummeslövsstrand and Mellbystrand. If you plan to follow the route, check its current alignment.

The Lagan and life in Laholm

The fishing stretch on the Lagan in Laholm is approximately 8 kilometres long. The section between the power station in Laholm and the river’s mouth is considered one of Sweden’s best salmon fishing waters. Fishing rules and seasons may change; check the applicable regulations before fishing.

At Hästtorget, Laholm Tourist Information provides maps and brochures and sells fishing permits as well as tickets for certain events. The services offered may change. The theatre is also part of the town’s cultural life: Laholm’s more than 100-year-old theatre is a historic venue for theatre and musical performances. The performance programme may change.
