For a hike in Gnarp, there are two different options to choose from: the Gnarpsrundan passes through large parts of the town, while the Kulturstigen in Sörfjärden focuses on the history of Sörfjärden. The routes differ both in length and in what they highlight along the way. You can therefore choose according to the kind of hiking experience you’re looking for.

Gnarpsrundan: a town loop with changing landscapes

The Gnarpsrundan is five kilometres long and starts at Gnarps skola, where parking is also available. It passes through large parts of the town, as well as residential areas, deciduous forest, coniferous forest and farmland. Residential areas and farmland are therefore part of the route, along with both types of forest. The route combines several kinds of landscape in a five-kilometre loop. If you enjoy taking in different surroundings while hiking, this mix is a specific feature to consider when choosing. Starting at the school gives you a clear reference point for planning.

The Kulturstigen in Sörfjärden

The Kulturstigen in Sörfjärden, Gnarp, is about three kilometres long and features 21 stops with pictures and texts about Sörfjärden’s rich history. The route is shorter than the Gnarpsrundan, but has a different focus. The information stops combine walking with learning about Sörfjärden’s past. If you’d like to take a closer look at the pictures and texts, allow time for the stops in your own schedule.

The choice between the routes therefore comes down to two questions: How far would you like to walk, and are you more interested in changing landscapes or in the history of Sörfjärden? The Gnarpsrundan is a five-kilometre loop with residential areas, forest and farmland; the Kulturstigen is about three kilometres long and has 21 stops with pictures and texts. If you’re considering staying overnight in Gnarp, these different focuses can help shape your day’s plans.

Maps for the Kulturstigen are available at the turnoff, by the remains of the old blast furnace ruins, and at the square in Sörfjärden where the public road ends. This identifies the final map location precisely. When preparing for the route, you can use these three locations as reference points when looking for a map.

The Kulturstigen is primarily suitable for hiking in summer; some sections can also be visited in winter. If you’re planning a winter visit, check local conditions in advance.

A documented event date

A municipal post dated 17 September 2024 reports that the Gnarps Hembygds- och fornminnesförening held Ersmässfirandet, a celebration unique to Gnarp, on 18 May. If you’re considering the festival as a reason to travel, check the programme for the year you plan to visit in advance.
