Rossell’s municipal area encompasses mountainous, upland, and lowland areas. Part of the municipality lies within Parc Natural de la Tinença de Benifassà; the natural park does not cover all of Rossell. When choosing the town for your travel plans, you can weigh natural surroundings and cultural discoveries according to your interests.

Landscape and orientation

The Ruta dels Miradors is a tourist circuit through the municipal area. The route features panoramic panels interpreting the landscape and can be driven by car. The municipality also provides information about routes in its area, GPS tracks, and guided routes in Parc Natural de la Tinença de Benifassà. For planning purposes, these are different resources: the specific circuit on the one hand, and further route information and guided tours on the other.

The Sant Marc panoramic panel offers views of the landscape of the southern Maestrat. The Ermita de Sant Marc is set in a pine grove overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. At the hermitage, there is a covered shelter with ten fire pits; check its facilities before your visit.

Archaeology and architecture

The Cova de les Bruixes contains Neolithic remains. Thanks to its portal, the parish church of Sant Jaume de Bel is considered the clearest example of Romanesque architecture in the comarca. These offer different historical interests: archaeological evidence from the Neolithic and a specific example of Romanesque architecture. If you include cultural history in your travel plans, you can choose between these different approaches.

Milling history at the Centro CĂvico

The Centro Cívico “Molí Vell” stands on the site of a former olive oil mill and hosts exhibitions, meetings, and various activities organized by local associations. On the ground floor are the last millstones and part of the restored equipment used to mill olives in the 1950s and 1960s. Here, cultural activities and traces of former olive processing come together in one place. This combination sets the Centro apart from the church and cave themes: the history of milling is as much a part of the site as its use for exhibitions and activities organized by local associations.

Festival and baking tradition

The Fira Multisectorial de Sant Josep has been held in Rossell since 1991. If the festival affects your travel dates, check the exact event dates before planning your trip. The Pastisset is considered an emblematic sweet pastry of the local baking tradition. The festival date and the pastry represent different considerations: when you want to travel and which local baking traditions interest you.

When choosing a destination, you can set your priorities: landscape and orientation are the focus of the circuit and viewpoints, while the cultural topics range from the Neolithic to Romanesque architecture and milling history. This allows you to consider Rossell in light of your travel interests, without presenting these topics as a fixed sequence.
