In Navajas, striking natural landmarks meet historic buildings. In the Salto de la Novia natural area, geological features combine with the Palancia River and a riverbank lined with riparian woodland. The Cascada del Brazal is a 30-meter-high waterfall on the Palancia River. Nature trails and cultural heritage offer different points of focus when planning a trip.

Waterfall, River and Trails

Cueva del Reloj lies in the Salto de la Novia natural area, opposite the waterfall. It owes its name to a pointed rock at the entrance: its shadow showed farmers working in nearby fields what time it was. The site thus combines a striking natural formation with a local tradition.

Ruta de las Fuentes is an easy, 1.5-kilometer trail along the Palancia River that ends at Salto de la Novia. Those looking to compare longer routes can choose from two circular trails: Ruta del Palancia is 11 kilometers long and runs between Navajas and Segorbe; the 10-kilometer Ruta del Baño takes in major sights around Navajas. The distances make it easy to compare the different trail lengths.

The Vía Verde de Ojos Negros also passes through Navajas. It goes through two tunnels and reaches the remains of a former quarry, the railway station and related facilities. Today, the route is used for sports and outdoor walks amid scenic natural surroundings. Those interested in the area’s industrial past can find traces of the former facilities alongside the natural scenery.

Water sports, climbing, hiking and mountain biking are possible at Pantano del Regajo. Kayaking on the Palancia River is also available. Providers and conditions may change; check the latest information before planning your activities.

Buildings and Local History

El Olmo is a monumental tree in the center of Navajas’s main square, described as being 385 years old. It belongs to the Ulmus minor Mill. species and is listed as a monumental tree of the Valencian Community. Torre de Altomira is classified as an Asset of Cultural Interest and lies on the slopes of Monte Altomira.

El Puente del Baño is a humpback arch bridge. Its angled profile is adapted to the sloping terrain and the need for a large central arch. Ermita de la Esperanza was built in 1491 in honor of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza. After falling into disrepair again, it was restored in a simple, elegant Byzantine style. Navajas parish church dates from the 16th century.

A walk through the streets of the late-19th- and early-20th-century expansion area passes grand houses preserved as reminders of the Belle Époque. An old mining trail also runs along the upper part of El Altomira. From there, views extend north to Sierra de Espadán, south to Calderona and, in between, across the Palancia Valley. Mirador del Paraíso is set up for tourist visits in the area of Cascada del tío Juan.
