Lucena del Cid combines an extensive network of trails with historic buildings, museums and regional cuisine. More than 200 kilometres of hiking trails offer plenty of scope for walking; the “Gegant de Pedra” mountain biking route also passes through the town. The Ruta dels Molins d’Aigua, with its historic watermills and natural swimming pools, adds another distinctive feature. When choosing your destination, you can therefore take into account your interests in outdoor activities, history and food culture.

Hiking Trails, Watermills and Cycling

The network of hiking trails and the individual routes each offer something different. The Ruta dels Molins d’Aigua passes historic watermills and includes natural pools where you can swim. It thus combines the mills’ cultural and historical significance with a specific opportunity for swimming. The “Gegant de Pedra” mountain biking route passes through Lucena del Cid, adding a focus on cycling to the options. If you would like to plan your stay around hiking or cycling, these offer two clearly distinct types of activity.

Buildings, Museums and History

The archpriest’s church of Lucena del Cid is in the late Baroque style. The parish museum houses a Gothic processional cross dating from 1420. The hermitage of San Vicente dates from the 16th and 17th centuries. These bring together different historical and architectural references: the cross is a specifically dated Gothic work, while the church is characterised by its late Baroque style and the hermitage spans two centuries.

El Castell is a ducal palace that now houses an ethnological museum. The Museo EtnolĂłgico displays tools and everyday objects used in local trades and work in Lucena. Alongside the history of palaces and religious buildings, the world of work is also a central theme. The museum has a viewpoint overlooking the town, the Lucena River and the surrounding mountains.

L’Oro also offers a range of historical connections. During the Carlist War, it served as a defensive fortification for Lucena. At the same time, L’Oro forms part of a Muslim watchtower; the cylindrical structure now stands about 15 metres tall. Its military role during the Carlist War and its status as part of a watchtower represent different aspects of its history.

Regional Cuisine

The traditional cuisine of Lucena del Cid is based on locally sourced ingredients. Traditional sweets include “Els cocs”, made with almonds, walnuts and honey. These ingredients give this local sweet a distinctly tangible character and add a culinary dimension to the town’s history. If food culture is also a consideration when choosing where to stay, you can take this into account alongside the trails and museums.
