A museum in the town center, the Font Lluny recreation area about 500 meters from the town center, and the Monasterio de Santa María, around 7 kilometers from La Pobla De Benifassà, each offer something different. This makes it possible to explore art, nature, and history as separate themes during your trip; there is also a route toward Fredes and other destinations in Tinença de Benifassà Natural Park.

Art and Festive Culture

Casa-museo de Renate Steen is in the town center. The artist displays her paintings and sculptures there. Another art venue in La Pobla De Benifassà is the Edicions H. Jenninger – Galeria d’art art gallery. A municipal visitor guide, revised in September 2021, lists it.

The Festa de Sant Antoni includes the slaughter of a pig, the building of the Barraca, a communal dinner, and dancing. The festival therefore brings together several group activities. Individual events may vary, so if you plan to include the Festa in your trip, check the specific program for your travel dates.

Nature and Trails

The Font Lluny recreation area is about 500 meters from the town center. It has a natural spring, tables, and barbecue grills. The distance from the town center is useful for orientation; on site, the spring, seating, and barbecue grills are among its listed features. Font Lluny can therefore be included in your plans as a nature and recreation spot in its own right.

Tinença de Benifassà Natural Park is home to species including Iberian ibex, roe deer, and wild boar, as well as vultures, Bonelli’s eagles, and booted eagles. The list includes both mammals and several birds of prey, giving nature-loving travelers specific animal names to look out for.

The GR 7 E24 route heads toward Fredes, which belongs to La Pobla De Benifassà. This gives you both the route name and its direction, while Fredes’ municipal connection may also help you get your bearings.

More Destinations and Practical Planning

The Monasterio de Santa María, also known as the Cartuja de Santa María, is about 7 kilometers from La Pobla De Benifassà. Jaime I founded it in the 13th century, and it was built in the Gothic-Cistercian style. Compared with Font Lluny, which is about 500 meters from the town center, the monastery is a more distant destination. Its founding history and architecture give a visit a different focus from the nature and art to be found in town.

The Jardí de Peter open-air museum is just before La Pobla De Benifassà. It displays imaginary sculptures created by the artist Peter Buch. As an open-air museum, it complements the art venues in the town center with a different form of presentation.

Cova dels Rossegadors, also known as Cueva del Polvorín, is on the Ulldecona Reservoir, in the heart of Tinença de Benifassà Natural Park. Advance reservations are required to visit the cave’s rock paintings. Plan ahead and check the reservation requirements again before your trip.

A municipal visitor guide, revised in September 2021, lists scooter and canoe rentals at the reservoir through Moli l’Abad. If you want to include either activity in your plans, check in advance whether it is available during your travel dates.

The Tinença de Benifassà Tourist Information Office is located in Tinença de Benifassà Natural Park. Check the office details before your trip if you need them for planning.
