Discover Forcall from several perspectives: four Muelas surround the town and shape a landscape that invites you to hike; at the same time, its squares, religious buildings, archaeology and traditional crafts offer cultural and historical points of interest. This gives you two distinct focuses when planning your trip—spending time in the surrounding landscape or exploring Forcall’s built and intangible heritage.

Hiking and Landscape

Four Muelas surround Forcall, and the landscape invites you to hike. The Riu Bergantes is designated as a Site of Community Importance. The PR-CV 322 Mola de la Vila hiking trail starts at the corner of Carrer III Centenari and Carrer Petra Palos. It offers a bird’s-eye view of Forcall and the surrounding Muelas.

The Square and Architectural History

Forcall has a large, arcaded Plaza Mayor. The Casa-Palacio de los MirĂł palace was built in the 16th century. The Casa de les Escaletes, also known as the Ayuntamiento, dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries.

Forcall’s original Gothic church dates back to the 13th century. The present-day church dates from the 19th century and has a Renaissance nave and a simple façade. The Ermita de la Consolación is a 16th-century chapel on a hill at the entrance to Forcall from the direction of Morella. It can be reached via the CV-124 as far as Consolacioneta, and then on foot.

The Conjunto de Sant Josep y calvario comprises a hermitage, a garden viewpoint overlooking the Caldes River, and a Calvary. The latter was built in 1886 to mark the 200th anniversary of the arrival of Saint Victor’s relics in Forcall.

Archaeology, Crafts and Tradition

The Sant Joaquim de la Menarella necropolis lies at an important crossroads of routes to Forcall running north to south and to the Sierra de GĂşdar running east to west. A total of 28 structures and 20 burial deposits were documented there. In all, 90 people were buried according to cremation rites in the 7th and 6th centuries BC.

Forcall’s permanent museographic collection consists mostly of archaeological material from the Iberian-Roman city of Lesera. The Museo de la Alpargata, by contrast, documents the traditional craft of espadrille-making. Archaeological material and the history of a traditional craft thus offer distinct cultural topics.

The SantantonĂ  de Forcall has been celebrated in the municipality since the Middle Ages. Its traditional customs include planting the maypole, burning the barraca and the ball rodat. Forcall also has the Centro de InterpretaciĂłn de la Fiesta de San Antonio and the Centro de InterpretaciĂłn de la naturaleza del Bergantes.

The Tourist Info Forcall provides tourist information and assistance, as well as guidance on local resources and services.
