Cycling routes, a wetland, beaches and historic churches give Torreblanca several distinct features for a stay. The routes vary in length and layout, the beaches differ in form and landscape, and the local churches showcase different aspects of architectural and art history. You can plan your trip around whether you prefer cycling, experiencing nature, spending time by the water or exploring historic buildings.

Cycling on circular and linear routes

The 21.75-kilometre circular route “Rincones de Torreblanca” connects the town centres of Torreblanca and Torrenostra with the nature park. It runs mostly on paved paths and presents no particular physical or technical difficulties. Its circular layout and the connection it provides between the two town centres and the park are key features when planning the ride.

The linear route “A La Gola del Trenc” offers a different format: it starts at Torreblanca railway station, initially follows the edge of the Prat de Cabanes-Torreblanca Nature Park and then continues through the park to Gola del Trenc. An observation point there offers a good view of the wetland. The route is 3.84 kilometres long, presents no particular physical or technical difficulties, and runs on paved paths for about half its length. Compared with the circular route, it is shorter and linear, ending at the observation point.

“Torreblanca en Bici” also offers more than 50 kilometres of signposted routes. You can ride them on your own, with family or in a group. The circular “Iniciación a la Montaña” route starts in the town centre of Torreblanca and is suitable for all users. The options described thus range from a single circular ride to a larger network of signposted routes.

Wetland and coast

The Prat de Cabanes-Torreblanca Nature Park is the most important wetland in the province of Castellón and one of the least altered wetlands in the Valencian Community. It is also listed under the Ramsar Convention’s List of Wetlands of International Importance. Visitors who want to focus on the landscape will find a very different experience here from the town routes or the beaches.

The beaches also differ in their described features. Playa Torrenostra is a wide urban beach with two long breakwaters that calm the water and make the beach suitable for swimming. Playa Norte is a long sandy and pebbly beach; its seabed of fine sand slopes gently and has no uneven areas. Playa Sur, in turn, is a protected natural beach in the centre of the nature park. Together, they offer different coastal settings: an urban beach, a beach with a gently sloping sandy seabed and a natural beach in the park.

Churches and cultural heritage

The Iglesia de San Francisco dates from the 15th century, served a defensive purpose and is an example of Morellan Gothic architecture. Originally a fortified church, it forms part of the protected cultural heritage complex of the Ermita del Calvario. The complex also includes the Capilla del Santísimo Cristo del Calvario and an ascending zigzag path. Together, the church, chapel and path form the Calvario’s cultural heritage complex.

The Stations of the Cross at Calvario are made of dressed stone and arranged along gently ascending zigzag paths lined with cypress trees. Some stations bear dedications and dates from 1739 to 1741. These details add the layout of the path and its preserved inscriptions to the picture of the buildings.

The Iglesia Parroquial de San Bartolomé offers a different architectural and artistic perspective. It has three naves, four bays and side chapels. The dome above the crossing is covered with blue glazed tiles, and direct light enters through eight windows. Inside are works including the “Salvador” by Josep Ferrer and scenes from the life of Saint Bartholomew by Joaquín Oliet. A 17th-century painting by José Orient depicts the 1397 raid by Berber pirates. Torreblanca’s churches therefore offer different points of interest: the defensive history and Gothic style of San Francisco, and the architecture and specifically identified works of art at San Bartolomé.
