Visitors to Aldeadávila de la Ribera can combine local history and landscape with a range of activities. The Ruta Autoguiada takes you through Aldeadávila and Corporario; the Mirador del Fraile currently requires an approximately 1.2-kilometer downhill walk over steep terrain. In the area of Playa del Rostro, an approximately 90-minute boat trip on the Duero is also possible, although services may vary by season.

Local History on the Ruta Autoguiada

The Ruta Autoguiada introduces the history of Aldeadávila and Corporario. It begins at the Ermita de San Sebastián, which houses the tourist information office, passes through the center of Aldeadávila and the neighboring village of Corporario, and ends at Corporario’s traditional washhouse. From there, it leads back to Aldeadávila. Black ceramic plaques mark the route and make it easier to follow.

Buildings and Ways of Life in the Past

Among the religious buildings, the parish church of San Salvador is one of the three religious buildings in Aldeadávila de la Ribera. The Ermita del Santo Cristo del Humilladero has wall paintings on its ribbed vault with tiercerons. The Palacio del Marqués de Caballero adds a different architectural touch: the Neoclassical building is made of granite masonry.

The Convento de Santa Marina La Verde is a former Franciscan monastery. It was abandoned after the Desamortización de Mendizábal; Iberduero restored it with the aim of using it as an inn. The original chapel dates from the 13th century. The convent is privately owned. Another way to explore local history is the signposted, interpretive Ecomuseo de Las Majadas del Rostro. The site provides information about the former way of life of the shepherds who lived there with their families and flocks.

Viewpoints along the Duero

Each viewpoint offers a different perspective. The Mirador de Viña Cerrá is in the Arribes del Duero Natural Park and offers views of the Duero and Portugal. From the Mirador del Fraile, you can see the deeply carved Duero Gorge, the Presa de Aldeadávila and the gorge’s granite walls. Picón de Felipe is one of the classic viewpoints in Aldeadávila de la Ribera. The Mirador de la Presa is located above the Presa de Aldeadávila.

The walk to the Mirador del Fraile currently covers about 1.2 kilometers downhill over steep terrain. You can park at Merendero Llano de la Bodega; check access conditions before your visit.

On Foot, by Bike or on the River

Route 5, Majadas del Rostro, offers hikers impressive views along the way. Aldeadávila de la Ribera is also designated as a stage of the Senda del Duero, also known as GR-14, in the province of Salamanca. This lets you distinguish between a trail specifically described as offering views and a route linked to a stage of the Senda del Duero.

For cycling, the Centro BTT de Aldeadávila offers more than 250 kilometers of signposted trails, classified by difficulty. The classification gives you a clear guide when choosing a route, as the trails do not all have the same level of difficulty.

Playa del Rostro can be reached from Aldeadávila or via Corporario. In the Playa area, an approximately 90-minute boat trip on the Duero to near the Presa de Aldeadávila is possible. Services may vary by season; check in advance whether a trip is operating on your visit date.

Olive Festival in December

The Fiesta de la Aceituna, el Aceite y el Olivo takes place in December in honor of the olive, one of the region’s most important fruits. The festival offers toast with oil from that year’s harvest, fried eggs and Arribes del Duero wine. The event is a specific reason to include local olive culture and its culinary side in your travel plans.
