Talayuela offers a range of possibilities for a trip: trails through pine forests and Dehesa landscapes, historic architecture and golf. Each landscape and activity offers a different focus. You can decide whether you want to devote most of your time to nature, history or sport.

Nature trails through varied landscapes

The Senda Pinares del Tiétar runs along the southern bank of the Tiétar and through the Pinares del Tiétar Ecological and Biodiversity Corridor, as well as the LIC Río Tiétar. The route passes extensive pine forests, home to a wide variety of protected animal and plant species. Riverbanks, forest and biodiversity give this route its own nature-focused theme.

The R25 Camino de los Jerónimos starts at the junction of the EX-119 and the road from Calle San Marcos in Talayuela. Most of the route is level, with gentle inclines. The surface is mostly firm earth, with a few gravel sections. This information can help you assess the terrain and surface when planning; conditions may vary seasonally.

The landscape also sets the R25 apart from the Senda Pinares del Tiétar: the R25 passes through Dehesa areas with holm oaks, cork oaks and native wildlife. While pine forest and riverbanks are the main features of the Senda, the R25 is characterised by Dehesa landscapes. If you are choosing between the two routes, you can use these different landscapes to help guide your decision.

Architecture and public art

Talayuela was one of the locations in the Muro Crítico initiative, which created artworks on municipal walls and façades. Individual murals may change over time, but the project brings art into the town’s public spaces.

The Iglesia de San Martín is a historic landmark. Construction is believed to have begun in the mid-16th century; the church was completed in 1574. Its walls are made of granite ashlar, and its architecture includes two Renaissance portals. The most important furnishing inside is a Neoclassical altarpiece dating from the early 17th century. The construction period and the different design elements give the church several historical layers: from the presumed earlier building phase and its completion to the later altarpiece.

Golf as another highlight

Talayuela Golf was designed by Severiano Ballesteros and has 18 holes. It is the first public golf course in Extremadura. Its design, size and status as a public course offer a different way to experience Talayuela, whether or not the rest of your trip is focused on nature or culture.

You can shape your stay around your actual interests: the two trails differ in their landscapes, the church offers specific points of interest for architecture and history enthusiasts, and golf adds a sporting option. You can focus on one theme or weigh up different interests when choosing your destination.
