Getting your bearings in Cabezabellosa

Cabezabellosa offers several distinct themes to choose from: religious buildings and religious art, named washhouses, a tree more than 500 years old, and a mirador. The Ermita Nuestra Señora del Castillo is less than a kilometre on foot from the centre; a prepared parking area is about 500 metres away. A narrow uphill path leads on foot to the Ermita and the Mirador de la Ermita del Castillo. The distance, parking and path conditions give you different practical considerations when choosing the focus of your stay. This lets you weigh cultural attractions, a natural landmark and a viewpoint according to your interests.

Religious buildings and the Jesse Tree

The parish church of San Lorenzo Mártir dates from the 17th century; the Ermita Nuestra Señora del Castillo dates from the 18th century. The Ermita has an additional art-historical feature: inside is an altarpiece depicting the Jesse Tree. This brings the dates of the two buildings together with a specific religious image. The Jesse Tree motif draws attention to religious imagery, while the century dates distinguish the religious buildings chronologically.

Washhouses in the town

The washhouses offer a different focus from the religious buildings. The restored traditional washhouse “Regajal” is 100 metres from Calle de la Iglesia; the “Las Huérfanas” washhouse is beside Calle Fuente. The names can thus be linked to different locations: Regajal is identified by its distance from Calle de la Iglesia, while Las Huérfanas is beside Calle Fuente. Regajal also has its traditional designation and restoration. Together, the two washhouses serve as distinct landmarks for exploring the town.

Natural landmark and mirador

A route leads to the Roble del Acarreadero, a tree more than 500 years old that is designated an Árbol Singular de Extremadura. Unlike the religious buildings, this route focuses on a single natural landmark. The tree’s age and designation give it a clear character; if you would like to include a named natural site in your stay, you can consider this route as a separate option.

The Mirador de la Ermita del Castillo is at an altitude of 870 metres. You can reach it on foot via an uphill path of about 500 metres leading to the Ermita Nuestra Señora del Castillo. The 870 metres refer to the altitude; the approximately 500 metres refer to the uphill path. This lets you take the location and the walk into account as two separate features when planning.

Paragliding at Pico Pitolero

There is a launch site for free flight on the northeast side of Pico Pitolero. Cabezabellosa and Pico Pitolero are among the best places for paragliding in the province of Cáceres. This gives Cabezabellosa a distinct connection to air sports alongside its religious buildings and the route to the Roble. It offers another activity to consider for your trip, in addition to architecture and nature.
