Five chimneys stand on the roof of the Palacio de los Manrique de Lara, an Italian Renaissance palace dating from the 16th century. There are also buildings from various periods and two walking routes with different planning details. Pasarón is considered a historic passage between the Jerte Valley and La Vera.

Trails and Landscape

The Ruta de Los Boo is a 4.4-kilometre circular route with a low difficulty level. It passes through dense woodland of oaks, chestnut trees, strawberry trees and heather. Along the way, there are views of the Tiétar Valley, Monfragüe and the Sierra de las Villuercas; visibility depends on the weather, and woodland conditions change with the seasons.

The trail starts on the road to Jaraíz, next to Finca Villa Josefa, and can be walked or ridden on horseback. Route details may be revised; check local signposting before setting out.

The Ruta Cerro Peñalba is also a circular route. It is listed as taking around three hours and 15 minutes, with a moderate to fairly easy difficulty level. It ends at the Cerro Peñalba necropolis. Conditions and access may change; check local information before setting out.

The routes also differ in the experiences described: woodland and views shape the Los Boo route, while the necropolis is the named endpoint of Cerro Peñalba. The ZEPA Río y Pinares del Tiétar protected area includes the Garganta de Pasarón, among other watercourses.

Architecture and Local History

Pasarón de la Vera was designated a Conjunto de Interés-Artístico in 1998 for its traditional architecture, characteristic corners and natural landscapes. The town’s history is also reflected in buildings from different periods: the Torre Parroquial dates from the 13th century and is Pasarón’s oldest building. As it stands apart from the church, it may originally have been a military watchtower.

The Iglesia de El Salvador was built in 1532 with a rectangular floor plan and a polygonal apse. The Palacio de los Manrique de Lara is an Italian Renaissance palace dating from the 16th century; five chimneys stand on its roof. As it is privately owned, it is not open for regular interior visits. Its façade and exterior areas can be seen from the street and the surrounding area. Check locally for access before planning an interior visit.

The Museo Pecharromán was established in 1996 in Ricardo Pecharromán’s former studio spaces; check visiting options in advance. The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Blanca dates from the late 16th century and is surrounded by an olive grove.

Annual Festivals

In Pasarón, San Blas is celebrated on 2 and 3 February with a procession carrying a blessed branch. The Romería de la Virgen de la Blanca is held on Easter Monday in honour of the patron saint, Nuestra Señora de la Blanca, with a procession. If one of these festivals is important to your trip, check the dates in advance.

A Detail at the Town Entrance

Fuente Cantera is located at the town entrance. A renovation description dated 1 June 2020 mentions clearing the area around it and cleaning the basin to make the spring more visible. Check its condition when you visit.
