Serrejón lies within Monfragüe National Park. The municipality stretches between dehesas of cork and holm oaks. To the north, grazed dehesa plains shape the landscape; from Serrejón, views extend to the Herguijuela, La Urraca and Las Parrillas sierras. Open spaces, oak woodlands and the named sierras give the town a strong connection to nature.

Landscape and Hiking Trails

One specific viewpoint is Mirador de los Canchos, near Serrejón. It offers views of a striking, rugged natural landscape. Alongside the wide views of the sierras and dehesa plains, the rocky landscape at the viewpoint offers another distinct natural attraction.

Serrejón is one of the municipalities along the Camino Natural del Tajo. Stage 33 runs from Higuera de Albalat to Serrejón. With Serrejón, the stage reaches a municipality in Monfragüe National Park for the first time. You can watch birds along the way at the Anguila Reservoir.

The PR-CC 67 Cerro de la Tejonera route starts in Serrejón. It is a 20.4-kilometre out-and-back trail that passes through dehesa landscapes, Mediterranean woodland and Mediterranean scrubland. There are opportunities to spot Spanish imperial eagles and cinereous vultures along the route. The two routes described offer different points of reference for planning: the endpoints are given for Stage 33, while the length of the out-and-back trail is specified for the PR-CC 67. When choosing between them, you can take the route type and your landscape interests into account.

Churches, Rock Art and Festivities

The Ermita de San Antonio stands in the upper part of Serrejón. Dating from the late 18th century, it offers views of the surrounding landscape. The Church of San Ildefonso is in the town centre. It dates from the period between the 15th and 18th centuries and has a striking tower, several altarpieces and artworks. The two churches give different character to the town: the ermita stands in the upper part and offers views, while San Ildefonso is in the centre and stands out for its historical and artistic features.

Near Serrejón is Cueva Bermeja, a rock shelter with painted figures in the Monfragüe Biosphere Reserve. It adds another cultural point of interest to the choice of destination; it is located in the area around Serrejón, not in the town centre.

Two dates also feature in the town’s cultural calendar. The patron saint festivities in honour of San Ildefonso take place in Serrejón every year on 23 January. The pilgrimage of the Santísima Virgen de la Oliva is held on the first Sunday in May. For travel planning around these traditions, the fixed January date and the May event, which falls on the first Sunday, provide specific timing.

When looking for a hotel, it helps to decide what you want to focus on during your stay: Serrejón combines its location in the national park with hiking trails, landscape views, and historic and festive attractions.
