The Camí del Rec connects La Selva Del Camp with the history of its water supply; the castle, monastery, country house and pottery workshop offer further historical themes. The town also hosts festivals at the beginning of the year, and has a stop on the Reus–Lleida railway line. The landscape, architectural history, crafts and events offer different focal points for a stay.

Watercourse and mills

The Riera de la Selva rises near Les Tres Aigües, where the Font Major, Salt and Gatellar ravines converge. This gives the history of the landscape a specific starting point, with three named ravines meeting here.

The Camí del Rec also puts water at the centre. The route follows a historic watercourse that supplied La Selva Del Camp and the grain mills along its course. This links the landscape with the history of the town’s water supply and its mills. Those interested in this connection will find the Camí del Rec a clear focus for their exploration.

Castle, architectural history and art

Castell de la Selva was built between the late 12th and early 13th centuries and served as a residence for the Pabordes for a time. After the second phase of restoration was completed in 2011, it became a multifunctional municipal space. Its construction and later use thus represent different chapters in its history.

Convent de Sant Agustí was founded in 1598 at the initiative of the municipality and built with donations, including one from Rafael Ripollès. The church of Sant Andreu also has a long construction history: its rebuilding began on 10 November 1582. Pere Blai undertook to complete it within eight years for 8,000 pounds. The work probably continued until 1686; the façade remained unfinished.

L’Hort d’Iglésies is a historic country house built by Josep Iglesias in the early 19th century. Inside, it preserves a collection of paintings depicting various scenes from classical mythology. This artistic theme adds another way to explore local history alongside the stories of the castle, monastery and church.

Pottery craft and festivals

At the Centre d’Interpretació dels Ollers: Ca l’Hipòlit, visitors can see the original workshop and an exhibition on the historical development of pottery in La Selva Del Camp. The focus here is not a period of construction, but the development of a craft. This makes it a distinct cultural highlight alongside the historic buildings.

At the beginning of February, La Selva Del Camp celebrates Carnival, which begins with the arrival of King Carnestoltes. The main event is a parade on Saturday afternoon, when groups, comparsas and penyes present their floats and costumes. Els Tres Tombs is a traditional festival at the beginning of the year, attended by horses and carriages from all parts of the Països Catalans.

The festivals offer different reasons to visit at the beginning of the year: the Carnival is defined by its parade and costumes, while Els Tres Tombs centres on horses and carriages. If you want to plan your trip around an event, check the specific dates before making arrangements.
